About Me
I'm an 18 year old guy in Idaho. I've been playing video games as long as I can remember, starting with an old dusty NES, some Mario, and Battletoads. Now, I'm just another gamer, it seems. And while it's a little uncomfortable being associated with video games simply by virtue of being 18 and male, I can't argue with the accuracy of the stereotype. That said, I'm a gamer, not a guy who plays games. It's a large part of my life and who I am. I'm not here on DTOID because I have a pastime or a hobby. I'm here because I have, for lack of a better word, a passion.

But I can't seem to think of anything useful to say about myself, so I'll hope my posts give some insight.

Keep in mind that I've played Crisis Core, Disgaea/2, and can't stand grinding. Monotonous battles get boring, especially when the go on for seemingly forever.

So, for a grind-hating RPG newbie, are there options?

This is a topic more for the forums, but I'd recommend Gurumin. More Zelda than RPG, but it's still a lot of fun despite the slightly childish premise.

Try Half Minute Hero.

No disrespectful but this needs to be in the forums. In the forums you will get more than enough suggestions and or recommendations. Here this will just get flamed.

Tales of Eternia is one of my favorite games, though I haven't played it on the PSP. I played it as Tales of Destiny 2 on PS1. Ys 6: Ark of Napishtim was a pretty fun game as well. It plays like a faster zelda with more rpg elements. Again, I didn't play the PSP version. Lunar: Silver Star comes out for PSP on November 12th. I'd hold out 'til then, unless you can find a copy of Eternia somewhere. You might have to grind a bit in Lunar if they haven't adjusted the difficulty, but you shouldn't in Eternia or Ys. Lunar is my favorite of the three.

Also, I think I remember Sterling saying he liked Astonishia Story.

Disgaea wasn't monotonously grindy. It stayed engaging, which is the realp problem with rpg grinds that I've had to deal with.

Persona's great, also, and I haven't really had to grind much at all so far.

Oh, Valkyria Chronicles is coming out for the PSP at some point, if it's anything like the original, you shouldn't have to grind much at all in that.

PSP RPG suggestions:

Star Ocean: First Departure - classic game, especially fun if you missed it the first time.

Crimson Gem Saga - Old School JRPG fun without the grinding and great updated sprite graphics.

Brave Story - Classic RPG story with great graphics for the PSP.

Jeanne D'Arc - awesome turn-based strategy RPG. More playable than Final Fantasy: Tactics.
