America... What's in it?

(Sorry for the 'double post' near enough)

So yeah. This time next month (i hope), i'll be in Philly or something like that, and the first thing that hit me about this realisation is... I don't know where to go for games and stuff!

Here, if someone said "where do i go for games mate" (they add 'mate' to the end of words here), then i'd say "Why salutations..." and get my teeth kicked in. Well no, but i can recommend Game, Gamestation, CEX... maybe even Cash Generators and Cash Converters. But i have NO freaking idea for the US. My friend who i'm staying with is like "games, ur... aren't they like kids things", and doesn't really visit electronics places... so i throw myself on the US population of Destructoid... Share your knowledge! Where do i go for games and geekery?

I think my friend mentioned a big 'mall' (maul? Like a big hammer? Whaaa!) in King of Prussia (WHAAA?!), so what kind of places should i look for, that isn't going to spit on my CDs, smear them over sandpaper, snap them in half, and then drool on my shoes?

Also, anything interesting in Philly, from a Destructoid-er's point of view?

Best Buy, Game Stop, EB Games, Circuit City, and to a lesser extent Wal-Mart.

So i take it people are in the US? Hmm this puts a kibosh on everything :( I was hoping it was totally empty, like some post-apocalyptic state, and i could walk in and leave some money on the counter, and take a game or two. WHYYYYYY!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

*collapses sobbing*

I remember reading bad things about Gamestop? Are they that reliable, considering i'll be 3k miles away before i realise the game they sold me doesn't work?

Some people hate GameStop because of their "trade-in" policies, and how some of their used games end up with entirely different discs (i.e. demo discs, discs of other games, etc.). I've never had a problem with them personally. I just go to Best Buy for my game/electronic needs anyhow.

Hmm, i'll keep with Best Buy then, seems a safer option.

You guys are forgetting some important stuff. America is filled to the brim with democracy loving, terrorist hating bald eagles and boots to put in peoples' asses. America is also full of criminals, also known as minorities.

Philly is awesome.
King of Prussia is kinda far out there, like 45 minute drive west of Philly, though. And it's actually a town, that is known only for a large shopping complex.

You can get games at any place Mr. Sadistic mentioned, plus there are plenty of non-chain stores (Such as Discount CDs near my house, which is just outside Philadelphia :3) and CD outlets that have games (they're typically overpriced, but you can find some rare older stuff there too. One near my house actually has Dreamcast consoles and games!)

If you get a chance, and don't have a phobia of the outdoors like most gamers, explore the territories to the west of Philly. Rural Pennsylvania is a beautiful place.

Random aside: The weather's pissy, wet and cold right now. Bring a coat.

That reminds me. You'll be just a few miles from the murder capital of USA: Trenton, New Jersey. Stay west of the Delaware river, for your own good. New Jersey is like America's own little Australia.

New Jersey = NO

seriously if you were close to NY, i'd say hit it up there. NY apparently has alot of nice import shops and crap there....

otherwise, Best Buy Circuit City, MAYBE Gamestop (each area is different with their Gamestops.)

i'm heading to NY first then a "greyhound" to Philly, and intend to go back for a day trip, so any info on the nice import shops would be great :)

Ok New Jersey is a bad thing. my friend said that the places she lives in, she feels safe to walk in at night, which i take to be a good thing.

I hope there are fat people there, first i won't look out of place, and second, i can buy some new clothes too! :P
