I think I have a serious problem. All I do is play The Mercenaries mini-game on Resident Evil 4. I have a small stack of games that I have neglected to play and about 5 Virtual Console games that I barely even touch. As a matter of fact, about 90% of my recent gaming related activities have been dominated by trying to beat my high scores while the other 10% is time spent messing around with the Handcannon and trying to speed-run Assignment Ada. Now what's odd about this is that I never really touched the mini-game on the GameCube version, but now it's all I play.
For those of you not "in the know," The Mercenaries is a mini-game you unlock after beating the main game for the first time. The goal is to score as many points as possible by killing enemies within the allotted time limit while picking up items that give you time extensions and score multipliers. Now I know that sounds pretty average, but it gets interesting when you realize that it has less in common with action shooters and more in common with Pac-Man. The key is to find the best routes to take and the fastest ways/best places to group enemies together. It's not about running around poppin' Ganados, it's about leading them to the slaughter. It's addicting, it's fun and when you start aiming for the world records, it gets pretty damn tough.
Anyway, there are a lot of good The Mercenaries runs on YouTube, but this one is easily my favorite. Needless to say, Wesker is a beast and so is the guy playing him:
RE4: The Mercenaries - Wesker 286 Combo Part 1
RE4: The Mercenaries - Wesker 286 Combo Part 2
Insanity.
(Note: In the GameCube version, more enemies spawn thus making it a lot easier to get higher scores and combos. That said, don't go and think you can pull this off with the PS2 and Wii versions due to the lower spawn rates.)
This game sucked up alot of my time, too. I had to set it down with max stars w/ all characters except Leon. I couldn't get all-stars with him on the docks for the longest time. Then a year later I was watching some guys killing time at a friends game shop on this game, and decided to bring my card in. Had it maxed later that afternoon.
Lower spawn rates and better controls on Wii? Sounds like a leisurely stroll through bad guy town... Mercenaries is all about the ridiculous number of baddies!

To be fair, I think only you and I played that game.
Krauser + Crazy Arm = Dead Super Dr. Salvador.
And if you are playing as Leon, Ada, H.U.N.K. or Wesker on Waterworld, save up grenades for him.
Or you can do it the extremely hard way and just knife him to death: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kqm1f7ECUmM
Good times.
