So, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is coming up in just a couple of days and I've decided it's high time to write about what I'm hoping and expecting at this year's E3. Since I was born in Texas instead of California and I'm not cultivating money trees in my backyard, I won't be able to attend this year's expo but that's not stopping my intense excitement. Sure, I'll miss the Video Games Live groundbreaking performance with it's synchronized video, lighting, special effects, crowd interactivity... Not to mention the booth babes, costume contests, surprise guests, game demos, prizes and more... But, I get to live the typical gamer's dream of lurking various video game news websites all day. Yippee. The E3 Expo is the world's premiere trade show for computer and video games and related products, so of course, every one is expecting epic new game details, new peripherals and information on the newest gaming technologies. This article is just going to focus on Sony's showcase. New PSP design: Rumors are circulating again. This time it’s rumors about the Sony PSP. Word has it that the PSP-4000 will be the name and essentially it’s the same as a PSP-3000 except for a sliding screen that can be moved upwards to reveal larger controls underneath. It supposedly, will have better Internet capabilities and better larger screen to watch movies. I've seen some concept art of what it's supposed to look like and I gotta say, if that's what we can be looking forward to, I might have to upgrade my PSP. Details for a new Jak & Daxter The Lost Frontier game on PS2 and PSP: Sometime in early April, Sony sent a press release, announcing a new Jak and Daxter game for the PSP and PS2. The game, titled Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, will be out this Fall and will pick up "from where the original Jak and Daxter trilogy left off." You'll be exploring the Lost Frontier as you help Kiera on her "quest to become a Sage and save the world from the threat of darkness." From what Sony has stated so far, apparently this will be a "sky-high adventure" as you take "flight in one of five different aircrafts" and "blast airborne enemies and battle skypirates with your powerful Gunstaff" a.k.a. a new transforming weapon. More details please. As I've stated plenty of times before, I'm a huge fan of platformers and adventure games so I've always been a big fan of the Jak & Daxter franchise. I am really hoping to hear more information on this. Plus, since I don't have a PS3 yet and I sold my PS2 Slim for grocery money, I am waiting to hear information on the PSP version. Details for Ratchet & Clank A Crack in Time on PS3: Sometime in late March, a new Ratchet and Clank game was announced for the PS3, when they released a teaser trailer. The story starts after discovering that lovable robot Clank's disappearance was engineered by Dr. Nefarious, the Wrench-swinging Ratchet races to save his best friend. Along the way, both will finally uncover the hidden truth behind their origins, and discover their ultimate destinies. Sounds juicy. Also, I've stated why I love Jak & Daxter games, same story for this franchise. It's supposed to hit this fall but I want game play information. There has been a lot of speculation through out the Internet, about who the mysterious older-looking Ratchet is or what purpose he plays in this game. Don't let me down, Insomniac. Details for God of War 3 on PS3: I feel like I don't even have to go into detail about why I want more details on God of War 3. C'mon, It's God of War 3. Kratos is going to be seeking revenge against Gods. That's all anyone needs to know to understand how brutal this game will be and want to purchase it. All I can say is, please announce a God of War PS3 bundle. Details for M.A.G. on PS3: If you haven't heard of M.A.G. I am sorry that you have been living under a rock for the last year. M.A.G. stands for "Massive Action Game" and is a massive multiplayer online action game featuring 256 player battles. Two hundred and fifty-sex player battles. Let that sink in a little bit. Now, that you've realized how AMAZINGLY fun this game should be, you too should be stoked to hear more about it. Announced at the end of Sony's 2008 E3 press conference, it's a modern military-themed action game somewhat reminiscent of SOCOM. Yes, please. Details for Kingdom Hearts 3 on PS3: The Kingdom Hearts franchise is very successful and has a really great background story to it. It's no surprised that many Sony gamers are eager to hear ANY WORD on Kingdom Hearts 3. Sony is so great at being a giant cock tease and they love it. There really isn't much to say about KH3 since the only thing we have to go by is the trailer that plays when you beat KH2. That's all I need, to know that this game is going to be epic but I'd like a little more game play footage and possibly some more information on the story itself. All we know so far is that the names of the armored characters are Ven, Aqua and Terra. Ven is the Roxas-like character who is frozen. The somewhat youngest of the three. Aqua is the knight with blue hair. The only female soldier at present. After getting knocked down she shoots a blast and stops the hurricane of keyblades. Terra is the largest of the knights and the one who’s face is revealed at the very end. The “Enigmatic Soldier” is what he was called until Nomura announced his true name. He seems to be the leader of the three. What we don't know is who the distant outlined figure is and the place in the Kingdom Hearts timeline this trailer takes place in. Details for Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on PSP: It's the prequel to the very first Kingdom Hearts game, supposed to have taken place ten years before the events in the first one. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep features two new Keyblade warriors, Terra and Ventus, both with different Disney-inspired scenarios to play through. There has been a couple of screen shot releases here and there but as usual, I need more. It will hopefully be what Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories should have been. It's ditching the card decks, thank goodness. Square Enix has not officially announced this for America yet so if there is anything at E3 about this, it will be an American confirmation. Also, I really really need more reasons to play my PSP these days. Well, ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. My predictions for Sony at this year's E3. I hope I'm not disappointed. Only a couple of more days until News sites will be swarming with new information on this year's Expo. Spirits are high with anticipation. I can't wait. Also, thanks so much Goops.. XD
You're amazing.
Good Stuff as always Riot.
Don't get me wrong, this was a good writeupt, but it's the 4th or 5th write up I have read that esentially constains the same list. No one seems to want to go out of their confort zone and actually try to predict original stuff. I would love to see just one person say that they think a new Strider game is finally going to be announced, or that Squaresoft will finally release a sequal to Einhander.
I want to see something that leaves no doubt in my mind about the validity of purchasing a PS3.
I wonder if that's because last year's show was such a disapointment that we're all just playing it safe with our predictions. The other thing that's struck me is that most people aren't looking at anything other than game announcements this year. We're already convinced about things like the new PSP design and a probable PS3 price drop.
Personally I think we won't see a PS3 price-drop, but instead the new PSP looks a safe bet and Sony has a big range of games they can show off at E3 and be playable too. I think they'll stick with that.
I'm also in the market for a new PSP Sony, don't let me down =x
Every E3 now, gamers gather around their computers, for any shreds of relevant news or rumors of what might be announced or shown to the public at E3. From big games, to new peripherals, to new systems, E3 has become like a gamer's Christmas, where they get to unwrap shiny new bits of information on which to salivate for the coming year. Unfortunately, the nature of the internet hype machine got the best of everybody.
Now, people usually get hyped up around this time of year, anticipating cool new game news, but last year, because of this phenomenon, it spiraled out of control, and grew to ridiculous levels.
Thanks for your input, though. =P I'll try to break the comfort zone in the inevitable Nintendo Edition lol..
