RiotMonster's E3 Predictions: Sony Edition
RiotMonster | 5:13 AM on 05.26.2009 15 comments

So, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is coming up in just a couple of days and I've decided it's high time to write about what I'm hoping and expecting at this year's E3. Since I was born in Texas instead of California and I'm not cultivating money trees in my backyard, I won't be able to attend this year's expo but that's not stopping my intense excitement. Sure, I'll miss the Video Games Live groundbreaking performance with it's synchronized video, lighting, special effects, crowd interactivity... Not to mention the booth babes, costume contests, surprise guests, game demos, prizes and more... But, I get to live the typical gamer's dream of lurking various video game news websites all day. Yippee.

The E3 Expo is the world's premiere trade show for computer and video games and related products, so of course, every one is expecting epic new game details, new peripherals and information on the newest gaming technologies. This article is just going to focus on Sony's showcase.

New PSP design:
Rumors are circulating again. This time it’s rumors about the Sony PSP. Word has it that the PSP-4000 will be the name and essentially it’s the same as a PSP-3000 except for a sliding screen that can be moved upwards to reveal larger controls underneath. It supposedly, will have better Internet capabilities and better larger screen to watch movies. I've seen some concept art of what it's supposed to look like and I gotta say, if that's what we can be looking forward to, I might have to upgrade my PSP.

Details for a new Jak & Daxter The Lost Frontier game on PS2 and PSP:
Sometime in early April, Sony sent a press release, announcing a new Jak and Daxter game for the PSP and PS2. The game, titled Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, will be out this Fall and will pick up "from where the original Jak and Daxter trilogy left off." You'll be exploring the Lost Frontier as you help Kiera on her "quest to become a Sage and save the world from the threat of darkness." From what Sony has stated so far, apparently this will be a "sky-high adventure" as you take "flight in one of five different aircrafts" and "blast airborne enemies and battle skypirates with your powerful Gunstaff" a.k.a. a new transforming weapon. More details please.

As I've stated plenty of times before, I'm a huge fan of platformers and adventure games so I've always been a big fan of the Jak & Daxter franchise. I am really hoping to hear more information on this. Plus, since I don't have a PS3 yet and I sold my PS2 Slim for grocery money, I am waiting to hear information on the PSP version.

Details for Ratchet & Clank A Crack in Time on PS3:
Sometime in late March, a new Ratchet and Clank game was announced for the PS3, when they released a teaser trailer. The story starts after discovering that lovable robot Clank's disappearance was engineered by Dr. Nefarious, the Wrench-swinging Ratchet races to save his best friend. Along the way, both will finally uncover the hidden truth behind their origins, and discover their ultimate destinies.

Sounds juicy. Also, I've stated why I love Jak & Daxter games, same story for this franchise. It's supposed to hit this fall but I want game play information. There has been a lot of speculation through out the Internet, about who the mysterious older-looking Ratchet is or what purpose he plays in this game. Don't let me down, Insomniac.

Details for God of War 3 on PS3:
I feel like I don't even have to go into detail about why I want more details on God of War 3. C'mon, It's God of War 3. Kratos is going to be seeking revenge against Gods. That's all anyone needs to know to understand how brutal this game will be and want to purchase it. All I can say is, please announce a God of War PS3 bundle.

Details for M.A.G. on PS3:
If you haven't heard of M.A.G. I am sorry that you have been living under a rock for the last year. M.A.G. stands for "Massive Action Game" and is a massive multiplayer online action game featuring 256 player battles. Two hundred and fifty-sex player battles. Let that sink in a little bit. Now, that you've realized how AMAZINGLY fun this game should be, you too should be stoked to hear more about it. Announced at the end of Sony's 2008 E3 press conference, it's a modern military-themed action game somewhat reminiscent of SOCOM. Yes, please.

Details for Kingdom Hearts 3 on PS3:
The Kingdom Hearts franchise is very successful and has a really great background story to it. It's no surprised that many Sony gamers are eager to hear ANY WORD on Kingdom Hearts 3. Sony is so great at being a giant cock tease and they love it. There really isn't much to say about KH3 since the only thing we have to go by is the trailer that plays when you beat KH2. That's all I need, to know that this game is going to be epic but I'd like a little more game play footage and possibly some more information on the story itself.

All we know so far is that the names of the armored characters are Ven, Aqua and Terra. Ven is the Roxas-like character who is frozen. The somewhat youngest of the three. Aqua is the knight with blue hair. The only female soldier at present. After getting knocked down she shoots a blast and stops the hurricane of keyblades. Terra is the largest of the knights and the one who’s face is revealed at the very end. The “Enigmatic Soldier” is what he was called until Nomura announced his true name. He seems to be the leader of the three. What we don't know is who the distant outlined figure is and the place in the Kingdom Hearts timeline this trailer takes place in.

Details for Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on PSP:
It's the prequel to the very first Kingdom Hearts game, supposed to have taken place ten years before the events in the first one. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep features two new Keyblade warriors, Terra and Ventus, both with different Disney-inspired scenarios to play through. There has been a couple of screen shot releases here and there but as usual, I need more. It will hopefully be what Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories should have been. It's ditching the card decks, thank goodness. Square Enix has not officially announced this for America yet so if there is anything at E3 about this, it will be an American confirmation. Also, I really really need more reasons to play my PSP these days.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. My predictions for Sony at this year's E3. I hope I'm not disappointed. Only a couple of more days until News sites will be swarming with new information on this year's Expo. Spirits are high with anticipation. I can't wait. Also, what are some things that you're anticipating to see at this year's E3?

I think God of War 3 will be the game that makes me want to buy a PS3, really want more info.
Ali D's Destructoid Blog
I'd love to see some info on Trico and what the Shadow of the Colossus team are up to. If there's news on LA Noire and Gran Turismo 5, then I'm with Nebones: I could get a PS3 off how well Sony do this year.
FalconReaper's Destructoid Blog
I hope that they come out with Birth by Sleep and details with KH3. I've been waiting forever and I'm starting to get impatient

I have to agree with Ali D! I'm not a huge, huge fan of Team ICO, but I am hoping we get to see some updated footage of Trico. The giant cat!bird is too adorable not to love!

(And I made an account just to comment on your blog! I am a fangirl.)

Thanks for the comments so far guys.. I feel like this is the year that I will buy a PS3 finally.

Also, thanks so much Goops.. XD

All I want is Heavy Rain and MAG info!

Good Stuff as always Riot.

Riot, I have read both this list, and your Microsoft E3 prediction list, and my only problem is there is nothing really original in these lists that isn't being said on every other gaming website right now. I mean at this point these aren't really "predictions" as much as they are "Expectations" from everyone on the internet. What I would love to see is a list of actual original predictions that no one has come up with yet at all.

Don't get me wrong, this was a good writeupt, but it's the 4th or 5th write up I have read that esentially constains the same list. No one seems to want to go out of their confort zone and actually try to predict original stuff. I would love to see just one person say that they think a new Strider game is finally going to be announced, or that Squaresoft will finally release a sequal to Einhander.
MisterGrieves's Destructoid Blog
I would hope their show is a bit less routine than this, but that's what people love about E3: the shockers.

I want to see something that leaves no doubt in my mind about the validity of purchasing a PS3.
Ali D's Destructoid Blog
@SilverDragon:

I wonder if that's because last year's show was such a disapointment that we're all just playing it safe with our predictions. The other thing that's struck me is that most people aren't looking at anything other than game announcements this year. We're already convinced about things like the new PSP design and a probable PS3 price drop.

Personally I think we won't see a PS3 price-drop, but instead the new PSP looks a safe bet and Sony has a big range of games they can show off at E3 and be playable too. I think they'll stick with that.
CelicaCrazed's Destructoid Blog
I bet we get an announcement of Warhawk 2 for release next summer. That's my somewhat shot in the dark.
Monodi's Destructoid Blog
Evn if the PS3 slim thingy looks fake as hell, I really hope that it is real for their sake and most of us here because they unnecesarily made their thing too inaccessible.
ArrestedDeveloper's Destructoid Blog
Though I'd love to see it I think KH will get ignored this year. All the KH team is working on Versus 13 so there probably isn't much to show.
Celdurant's Destructoid Blog
While I'd love for some KH3 info during Sony's press conference, the major cock tease that is Square Enix will probably hold out even longer, for some private event they'll host in Japan later in the year. That's what always ends up happening anyway. Still, I want Sony to wow me this year. I'm pretty easy to please, but a surprise or two would be nice.

I'm also in the market for a new PSP Sony, don't let me down =x
RiotMonster's Destructoid Blog
Silver Dragon, I understand where you're coming from. Ali D kind of hit the nail on the head. That could be the reason I haven't really written out of my comfort zone, regarding this year's E3.

Every E3 now, gamers gather around their computers, for any shreds of relevant news or rumors of what might be announced or shown to the public at E3. From big games, to new peripherals, to new systems, E3 has become like a gamer's Christmas, where they get to unwrap shiny new bits of information on which to salivate for the coming year. Unfortunately, the nature of the internet hype machine got the best of everybody.

Now, people usually get hyped up around this time of year, anticipating cool new game news, but last year, because of this phenomenon, it spiraled out of control, and grew to ridiculous levels.

Thanks for your input, though. =P I'll try to break the comfort zone in the inevitable Nintendo Edition lol..
lv99ron's Destructoid Blog
Kingdom Hearts 3, God of War 3, and Ratchet and Clank a Crack in Time are te only reasons why i have to get a PS3 this year.

Introduction:
Hello, lightsaber-wielding Nerdlings, Basement-Dwellers, Gamers, Stoners, Internet-Rats, Indie Devs, Virgins, Attention Whores & Industry Fat Cats!!
As you already know, I go by the name of Riot Monster and I am from the Internet. In case you don't a lick about me, here's my Destructoid Introductory blog. Also, here's my 15 Things You Didn't Know About Me blog. I joined Destructoid quite a few sunsets ago in the early Spring of 2008, when someone stated that "Destructoid would eat your unborn babies". Having an insatiable taste for mucus-covered, unborn babies, I had to join. Since then I lurke your articles, sea-blawgs, listen to your podcasts and lul silently. Plus, people were like "WHAT THE @#$% YOU TALKING BOUT MAN?!1! WE GOT XBOX AND PLAYSTATION!! PFFFT NIGGA!!1!". Naturally, I was in.

Autobiography:
Well, here’s my story. I raced hard, beat a lot of hopefuls, but I finally made it. I am the supreme winner of the Sperm Race. After that victorious triumph, I spent a few days as a dumpster baby, living off of the mysterious liquids that dripped into my trash can. As a toddler, I was discovered by a Samurai. Believing he would train me in the ways of Karate, I went with him. I ended up working in an Asian sweat shop, making shoes for NBA basketball players. I turned five years old and decided it was high time to GTFO and see the free world. After months of hitchhiking and over 9,000 H-Jays later, I ended up in Texas, in a small town called San Angelo, where you have nothing to do but drink, snort cocaine, screw hookers, smoke crack, play games and have unprotected gay cowboy sex. As a convicted sex offender and a felon for robbing porn shops, I’ve grown to become the bombastic starlet your mother warned you about.

I’m one of the most laid back girls that you will ever meet in your life. With a silver tongue, immature humor and a love for comedy movies, I find myself really easy to get along with. I see myself as a sweaty, mosh-pit-hopping, stomping, raver who loves video games, molests people over the Internet and isn't afraid of getting dirty. I'm the girl who has bruises and black eyes from attempting to glowstick with ninja-like skills but fails. I’m the girl who you see at parties with fucked-up hair, Hello Kitty pajama pants and a torn-up Slayer t-shirt. The girl who’s most likely smoking from a strawberry-flavored joint and talking her head off about her most recent Halo 3 matches, bitching about religion and government or just laughing to herself thinking about something that happened the other day. Yeah, that pathetic excuse for a girl is me.

Shameless Plugs:
I'm the Dallas Video Game Examiner and I have my own little blog where I talk about stuff that absolutely no one gives a shit about, Kisses Candy Chronic & Cumshots. Also, I have a Twitter so be my guest and follow the fuck out of me.
