Like always, Vexed Alex is horribly wrong. Piplup is the one you want. Chimchar looks like a jackass and looks like even more of jackass when he evolves. Piplup looks like a penguin in tuxedo armor when he evolves!

Piplup , because he is darn cute and Empoleon is one of hte most badass looking pokemons ... (and defense is pretty cool too ...)
I don't know why, but Shaymin's Sky Forme bugs the crap out of me. How does a creature that looks like a hedgehog transform into one that is more like a canine?
And, Turtwig. One of the best damn grass type starters since Bulbasaur, in my opinion. Leech Seed is a great asset.

For Diamond, I chose Chimchar and someone traded me a Piplup pretty early on so I kind of want to experience with Turtwig since I didn't get him til after I beat the game.
@Ashley - Yeah I know what you mean about Shaymin. I never really gave two craps about him before and now he looks cooler but I don't see the hedgehog canine connection either..

Piplup, cuz Empoleon is so freakin awesome. Best Water starter since Blastoise, IMO. I just wish I could find my DS, my Pokemon must hate me right now :(
I'm tempted to get this for my sister for her birthday, and keep the figure for myself, because I'm a horrible person like that.
I used Twiggy in my Pearl run. Yeah, if you run up against an Ice type, you're gonna die hard, but there are always counters to that. Earthquake, Wood Hammer, Leech Seed (hell yes!), and whatever else. I wound up using Crobat, Golduck, Luxray, and whatever else I could scrape up for my team. They covered most of my bases at least.

Outside of the myriad of useful grass moves, he learns EARTHQUAKE at 32 which makes him a powerhouse.

This is my first Pokemon game since Gold/Silver, so it's either going to completely destroy my life or I'm going to fucking hate it. I'll probably go with Piplup, because he's cool and cute.

I find myself hating how excited I am for this. I swore I grew out of pokemon when i turned 13.... Anyways Piplup is the best.
