This is a 3:30 a.m. post. After catching my breath I must note this post should be tagged: Artsy Fartsy. Right? Take as serious as you want. Or with a pinch of salt.
DOUBTERS!
I can't sleep.
I can't breathe.
I can't do anything until I get this out of me.
Some of you might have actually doubted Rev. Anthony's review of Braid.

But, in the end, he was proven right.
DOUBTERS!
I came. I saw this masterpiece that is Runner. I came.
I understand if there's a difference of opinion. So far, here it seems to be a mostly LOVE IT or NOT group. Hardly any middle ground. But, all I can say is.. To me,
the man is a genius! Actually, the three authors of this very well done piece of work are truely geniusii, err, geniuses.
I don't want to spoil it, with as little playtime as it takes, it will save my lazy hands from stating the obvious and ruining it for you. If you want that review, check
this one (with spoilers) here. So just go and play!
I played it a bit different than many of you only using the keys/keyboard. I played the game on this controller right here:
I can always have memories of when I touched the game, or, conversely, when the game touched me.
Seriously, this game is that good. The game is not broke, it works great for me. (I only tried the last version #7, I think.) Just try playing it on a controller, (using a
windows keyboard->controller keymapper) it made me feel things that I have no words to describe.
Almost perfect 9.8+/10.
My only complaint is the length. The game, though, has some playtime extension due to some challenges for the player. However, I can't recommend this enough.
If you haven't played it...[Looks towards a certain bearded Samurai.]
/_/;
Oh damn,
what are you waiting for...?! Feel free to throw my review out if you don't agree.
Thank you for reading.
To any would-be-trolls at this time of the night/morning: Be angry all you like, but, I won't respond in kind. Try tearing into me
after you _have_ played it, at least.
As a game, it wasn't too much to fap over. The controls were very basic and worked, I can't say it was overly "fun."
To me it was just a good way of telling a story and the gameplay just made sense of it.
Very interesting though, I enjoyed it to a certain extent but after a few playthroughs it's kinda raped and got irritating so to me it's one of those play a few times and figure out what the fuck just happened afterwards kinda things.
Also, not trying to troll or put down your post and say your review is wrong. I'm glad you thought it was masterpiece compared to what I thought of it.
The game is short. It took me around 5 minutes to beat. I do like the way they made it up to the player to interpret the story. Other than that, It's just decent.
To expound a bit on the negative side..
#1. I think offering controller enhancements would have put this game on the top for everyone. In some way, the game truly needs to be free of the confines of the keyboard to be more friendly, less distracting/confusing, and to allow the player more focus on the gameplay itself.
#2. At first glance, this game's visuals don't help anything. The nondescript, dreary landscape is pretty dull and unappealing. I thought about the graphics score, but, this game is strange. With all the business all over the screen, It can & does make things confusing.
Yet, this isn't just your everyday video game street corner or road. In my opinion, it does successfully transcend itself. It "dreams" itself into what is seen on the screen. In the meanwhile, without an unobstructed view to move your player, it taps into some instinctive impulses here and there.
#3. Typical 'skillz' or deep logic isn't something this game uses or rewards. But, it is definitely more "rewarding" than any flash game I've seen. There is this power in this game that makes it so appealing. I think and know it is more than just an appeal to the author's 'id' or the player's ego.
#4. I wish it was longer. It is just too short. I mean, it grabbed me, shook me, and for a brief time awoke something inside. I understood the story the more I played, even though I didn't comprehend the first couple of times what was going on.
#5. That is the thing about this game, is that it does the unexpected when you play it the first few times. Totally. That is what is another of the indescribable things. Maybe that can, and will turn some people off.
I haven't felt a want or desire for a game to not end, in a while. Some games can 'awaken' the player to something. This game does that and more.
I think what makes this truly art, is the fact that if you look at it on the surface, it looks kinda meh. Maybe like he is attempting to be a girl-magnet or something. But, at some point it becomes less about him and more about you.. the player somehow. I could go on.. and on.
Seriously, the game had a impact on me. (Albeit, somewhat briefly.) I don't think I could _ever_ make a game as good as this. Maybe after a few days I might have to do another rewind review or something, when the newness wears off, but, the power this game has is something otherworldly.
I'm wondering now if Rev. Anthony seriously chanted some kind of magicka over the game or something!! LOL.
I don't get it. I guess I'm not "indie" enough for this scene.
@Caffeine Knight - Er yeahh.. ditto on that one.
@Caffeine Knight - Well, I'd like to give an example like, let logic go.
Y'know in almost all games how all players character must walk on the ground. Well, of course, that is common sense and logical.
This game doesn't always adhere to physical law or like that kind of logic. It purposely takes the expected and mixes in with the unexpected.. To me, it reminds me kind of like that saying, "and doesn't afraid of anything". So about halfway through it really starts forgoing logic.
Damn I wish this game was longer! I guess the more things don't make sense, the more it drew me in.
@Rifter01
You're thinking way too much into this. I'm not saying this is a bad thing or a good thing, I'm just glad that you can get such enjoyment and meaning out of what is, and I feel bad saying this, such a mediocre game.
