I figured since a lot of you are whining like children, that I would join in on the fun.
OK, so Live wasn't working well for about like 6 hours on Friday.
Or, wait. I'm pretty sure I was playing COD4 online for most of the day. And I'm pretty sure
I downloaded the maps at about 11am without incident and then got and installed the
update no problem around noon.
"But, but I had trouble buying MS points and the maps!"
Yea, I understand you had troubles for most of the afternoon. Trouble accessing the
GODDAMN MARKETPLACE. Seriously? This is what you people bitch about? Not being able to
download maps for a videogame? This is where your righteous indignation comes through?
About downloading maps for a fucking videogame?
[i]"But I pay for it and it should work all the time and give me hugs even when a shitload of
people are raping it in the ass."[/i]
Yes. How dare anything not work for like 6 hours. How dare it.
But after what happened in Dec. it should have been fixed...'
What happened in Dec. was bullshit. I agree with that. But come on. Are your lives that sad
that not being able to download maps for like 6 hours upset you guys that much? Come the
fuck on.
Yes. Shit we pay for should work. But off the top of my head, I can count on one hand the
number of times Live has been fucked up. That's a pretty damn good success rate when
you consider how many people play on and use Live on a daily basis.
I have no idea what people are bitching about so much, I signed on easily, downloaded my maps easily, and proceeded to play easily. These people just suck.
Hey, all I was saying is that it went down, it shouldn't have. You don't need to get on the defensive. I pay more than I feel I should for this service, and they said it was fixed. It may not have been a big issue for you, hell, it wasn't a big issue for me, but are you suggesting we simply let it slide and accept it?
I was just airing my disappointment in Live's failure to fix problems.
Acutally I love the satire that Revolt in Colour provides. My blog was mainly about how I don't understand why I must pay for something that doesn't work 100% of the time and that I hardly use it.
It's not about the money lost it's about paying for a service that doesn't work and the inconvenience it causes.
I wanted to join in the Euro FNF but I hadn't downloaded the extra maps to join in and because of this marketplace bullshit I spent nearly an hour and a bit downloading the free maps and hence missed a huge part of the FNF.
The fact is the marketplace shouldn't have fucked up like it did. Letting things like this slide just gives companies like MS no reason to improve their services and this'll just happen again further down the line.
You know very well the money wasn't my issue. If you want to go down that line, your saying it's fine for them to turn the servers off for weeks because it's only $2? NO.
My point was that if they charge me £40 for this (a service they are adding more and more advertising to), I expect it to work flawlessly. When it doesn't, I'm going to kick up a fuss, especially when it was something which could have been avoided.
Best Live rant I've read. PUT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE, GODS OF THE TOID.
Hilarious. People don't understand how stupid they are until someone has the balls to shove it in their face a la wardrox thinking this was specifically about him. Guilty conscience much?
Yeah, its only $4 a month. I happily pay it. However they really need to get some new, dedicated servers going. Having the whole service meltdown because of some issues with downloadable maps for one game is not a quality business model that I am happy about paying for.
"Did I forgive MS for the downtime? No"
Actually by telling people to stop bitching about this issue you are implying that it's ok for live to fuck up from time to time. The fact is if you want something to change and/or improve you have to raise the issue or else it will be ignored.
You know we actually pay $80 for it here in the uk, thats about the price of a game. The serive should have an entire back up server farm and seperate servers for the marketplace the amount we pay. But money isn't an issue its the fact that the last time it went down it was overa month before it was restored, is that going to happen again. It better not or there will be hell to pay.
Considering how badly their servers were probably getting raped with downloads, as well as regular friday night/weekend traffic (which is huge) and that it only really affected the marketplace is a pretty big improvement if you ask me.
@Revolt in Colour:
It's that kind of attitude that let's them get away with stuff like this. Obviously it takes more than us complaining about it on Dtoid but if we want to see a change in anything everyone has to raise the issue and that includes us instead of sweeping it under the carpet.
Why do you think the PS3's online service is improving at the rate it is? Why was the PS3 price dropped so fast? Why did MS extend the 360 warranty to 3 years? Why is wiifit and Mario Kart coming out in Europe before the US? It's because everyone is or at least was bitching about these issues and in the same way we need to raise the issues with live so that MS will be forced to do something about it.
the way i see it would sony and nintendo do better about an issue like this? I think not. When live went down for a month or so microsoft gave us a free live arcade (A shittyone but a game no less). If you ask me no other company handles online play right now other than microsoft. Look at sony's shit going on right now. Got a 60gig ps3 :/ sorry can't help ya. Disc read error? Sorry that will be 80 dollars to fix... The fact of the matter remains Xbox 360 users got that shitty RROD and we got an extended warrenty for 3 years. Live went down for a month free game we got...I am not taking sides here i am just stating the facts. sometimes shit goes to to hell....
So - I think revolt's point is that XBL is damn good on a everyday basis its hiccup's are few and far and are acceptable due to the nature and cost.
wardrox et al. on the other hand demands that the service is flawless given the fact that they do pay.
I for one am happy with the XBL service and am ok with the little slowdowns it does given its cost. They really should have their servers better configured to put up with upcoming traffic they know will be hitting them...
@Kohelhunter: "mircosoft takes care of its peoples" only when they don't want sued or a mass exodus. They could care less about the people as exhibited by there sub par customer service, their failure prone hardware. Oh wah my PS3 broke out of warranty and I had to pay, thats such a hard ship! Maybe because the PS3 failure rate is around 3% and the 360 was (pre warranty extension) ~ 33%. Seriously it cost MS $1billion for their bad hardware designs but would have cost them so much more had they not done the absolute least that they could which was extend the warranty only on RROD. If your 360 gets a disc read error our of the original 1 year warranty they will charge for the repair too.
If service hadn't been fucked up in Dec. no one would even care about what happened on Fri. But now MS is such an easy target because they were stupid and didn't have their servers ready for holiday surge.
I'm perfectly happy with Live. And to be honest, no one here has any idea of the server loads they take and how hard it can be to maintain such a huge service.
Even though it wasn't a long outage I think people should take every chance to kick Microsoft in the balls, we pay for the service so even the little things should be few and far in between, if we jump on them for every single little thing they'll eventually start taking more care.
We need them to phear us!!!!
The funny thing is everybody is bitching about this, but I wasn't even on when this occured and thus it didn't affect me.
Personally I can deal with hiccups in live as long as they focus on improving it and other aspects of their service. Their support sucks ass, even more so than any other companies support service. I will gladly trade in a day of XBL service for that to improve since I have to contact them more with their hardware failings and whatnot.
I agree. Yes, it's obvious when shit doesn't work that you're paying for. But millions of people are playing XBL at a time and it leaves room for mess-ups. PS3 offers free service. Awesome. But XBL offers (in my opinion) the greatest online service anywhere.
You're right... I didn't even download those yet...been to busy with lost odyssey... but if i had and the server would have been down i doubt i would have cared.
Yeah I tried Friday night with no luck, and shit oh well. I'll go to bed, and wake up and download it and play. No biggie, but geez, all these damn idiots who flip out for nothing? Give me a break. I totally agree with you Revolt, its retarded. Not everything is always going to work 100% of the time, so get over it.

about me
My love for videogames is only eclipsed by my love of music. I have an unnatural affinity for zombie movies, Reeses' Cups, and slide guitar. I own a gaming PC and a Macbook and love both. I've seen more movies than I'd like to say. I currently own the exciting Wii360 combo. I've owned every game system since except the Gamecube. The Deadliest Catch and LOST are the best shows on TV. I would drop out of school to tour full time with a band. If there was a fire, I'd grab a guitar in each hand and hope my girlfriend would make it out alive.

Yes. My BB code skills blow.
I believe its "My BB code skills /blow" :P
I have no idea what people are bitching about so much, I signed on easily, downloaded my maps easily, and proceeded to play easily. These people just suck.
I did just finish my breakfast, so it seemed appropriate.
Hey, all I was saying is that it went down, it shouldn't have. You don't need to get on the defensive. I pay more than I feel I should for this service, and they said it was fixed. covah, I did have a problem as well so it not that they suck. MS expect to see the large amounts of people that were wanting the map packs.
But, Wardrox, the entire Live service did not go down. There servers just could not handle the extremely large surge in COD 4 activity.
The COD4 servers were just fine. I played all afternoon. It was just the marketplace.
If I'm forced to pay, _any_ drop in service is an issue for me.
@Wardrox
Let's calculate the money you lost.
$4 a month... down for about 6 hours... that's $.13 a day... so about TWO GODDAMN CENTS.
YOU LOST TWO CENTS.
OMG TWO CENTS NO WAI
OMG U SHUD SUE
Fanboy?
Don't make Blog Jesus angry on Sundays...
Acutally I love the satire that Revolt in Colour provides. My blog was mainly about how I don't understand why I must pay for something that doesn't work 100% of the time and that I hardly use it.
@Seth338
I'm not a fanboy. I'm just tired of hearing people bitch about losing $.02 of their monthly investment in Live.
It's not about the money lost it's about paying for a service that doesn't work and the inconvenience it causes.

Sarcasm...the Breakfast of Champions. Thanks for the quick bite Revolt.. I missed out this morning. lol.
LOL @ being accused of being a fanboy.
Did I ever bring up the PSN? No. Did I forgive MS for the downtime? No.
My whole point is that the ones that are whining about this need to stop being a bunch of children.
No, seth338, he's just a realist.
Best Live rant I've read. PUT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE, GODS OF THE TOID.

Live shouldn't screw up in theory, but what in the world works correctly 100% of the time?
You're all blowing this way out of proportion.
@Anus Mcphanus
Yes. Because you guys whining about it on Dtoid is gonna make a difference.
I might as well just say hi to Bill Gates now, because we all know he browes the cblogs regularly.
Uh, oh. This blog looks dangerous.

You guys rebel against Microsoft every time they suffer some down time. Which is to be expected with any type of Online service/content.
My concern is, if Destructoid.com were to crash for the period of 24 hours. How large would the rebellion be?

@Revolt in Colour
Never underestimate the Toid. Ask Workman nicely, and he'll make your dreams come true, just like the Candy Man can!
@Gameboi
If I ask for cuddles will my wish be graned?
Yeah I tried Friday night with no luck, and shit oh well. I'll go to bed, and wake up and download it and play. No biggie, but geez, all these damn idiots who flip out for nothing? Give me a break. I totally agree with you Revolt, its retarded. Not everything is always going to work 100% of the time, so get over it.
Chicken go cluck cluck, cow go moo, I'm a farm animal how 'bout you!
The internet: serious fucking business.
@ RiC
No, you ask Sadistic for cuddles.
What. I'm not here to cuddle, I'm here to fuck.
Cuddles > fucking.
