GTA IV DLC New, Entire Cities?
Revolt in Colour | 11:51 AM on 04.17.2008 18 comments

Oh snap.

Kotaku is reporting on a rumor about the GTAIV DLC being entire new cities. If this were to
happen, I would probably shit my pants.

Story here.

It doesn't seem like there's concrete evidence yet, but even as just a rumor this could sway
those who aren't sure which version to buy.

I don't know.. I mean it would be cool if the DLC were actual cities, and if it is true, something tells me that they will be pretty underwhelming compared to the main game.

@Sadistic

The logistics of such DLC would be insane, so that's why I'm wary of said rumor. But you know Rockstar would make them great. They took forever for GTA4 and have apparently made it amazing, so if they went with DLC that were extra cities, I'd expect them to be great.

very possible. if they built the city out of self defined assets "This is what a wall is, here's a skin that goes on it, this is what the physics of a wall are" I could see them taking "New York" assets, and expanding that into any number of specialized cities. Interesting rumor.

Lol Kotaku.

Also, sounds interesting.

but I don't have any more room in my hard drive :(

Haha. Yes that will suck. Now I'm glad I've been saving room on my HD for something that was worth it.

Those 10GB looks pretty sexy now.

But I do wonder how big they would be. 2GB maybe? I don't know. They could probably reuse/stream a ton of info the GTAIV disk, which would keep the size down, but yea. I have no idea.

Yeah my HD is full, so that sucks... looks like I gotta delete some stuff if this is true

my memory card is full.

Also, great timing, rumor. Just before everyone goes out and spends $60 bucks.

Oh snap. The WorkMan has spoken.

Hmmmm I too would question the quality of entire new cities, I reckon the DLC will be entire new story arcs/missions that take you outside of liberty city for a short time into a different city or something like that.

I'm calling bogus on this one. This just smells like a web rumor

Hmmmm, i'd be incredibly impressed if this were true. Thankfully my HD still has 98GB free so i shouldnt have too much trouble.

Although i'd rather have to wait a long time for a high quality set of DLC, than have them turn out something shoddy compared to the main game.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Maybe Rockstar will release the GTA IV equivalents of Vice City/San Andreas as DLC add-ons? Although there probably isn't as much money to be had doing that... who knows. Whole new cities as standard DLC seems a little over-ambitious.

Also, I wonder how the Xbox exclusivity factors into all this?

Lol@ small hard drives.
B-Radicate's Destructoid Blog
Hmm. Interesting. By the time the DLC comes out I'll have enough money to waste, I mean spend, on the 120gb hard drive. Until then... interesting, indeed.
RAPEGAME's Destructoid Blog
even though it would make more sense to release 'extra cities' as completely seperate games and charge full price for them ala vice city + san andreas...

 about me

My love for videogames is only eclipsed by my love of music. I have an unnatural affinity for zombie movies, Reeses' Cups, and slide guitar. I own a gaming PC and a Macbook and love both. I've seen more movies than I'd like to say. I currently own the exciting Wii360 combo. I've owned every game system since except the Gamecube. The Deadliest Catch and LOST are the best shows on TV. I would drop out of school to tour full time with a band. If there was a fire, I'd grab a guitar in each hand and hope my girlfriend would make it out alive.
