I'd rather they not follow Sony/Microsoft's lead and just make everything included on the disc. I dont want to pay extra to unlock content that should be included in the actual game. We used to call these things extas and they came with the actual game.
The only thing I want to see Nintendo do is let 3rd parties patch their own games. The Conduit could use a minor patch to fix some issues. Nintendo should definitely also fix the lag problem that SSB Brawl has.

Zelda TP was fine without DLC. Games like Metroid Prime 3 however, could have been better with things like some sort of wifi gameplay and more planets. SSBB could have included character and stage DLC. Nintendo could do this to extend the life of their games. For example a lot of people still play COD4 thanks to the map packs.
However Nintendo are F-ing loaded and they usually dont need DLC because their games dont need any additions because their good enough already.

A game like Rock Band 2 just begs for expansion, though. Its not the kind of game I'm going to get frustrated with being incomplete because, well, there's a lot of legal reasons why they can't just throw any song they want in there. They ahve to go through a licensing process that, unlike a lot of games, its perpetually ongoing.
There are royalties to pay, too.
Other games try to copy this model without that in mind, instead withholding their own content as an "incentive" for whatever reason - be it a pre-order bonus or to get you to buy a game new.
When EA said that was part of their overall strategy for the next year, I stopped faulting Bioware for doing it, now I knew for certain who was putting them up to that nonsense for Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.
Nintendo just needs to keep on doing what they're doing and avoid marketing gimmicks like this, If anything, the only thing I'd like to see out of Nintendo is a stronger network built around them, if only for the sake of replacing NWFC in time and having a better multiplayer network.
When I pictured DLC years ago, I saw it more as a thing realized in the virtual console aspect, but its so disappointing to see it instead used to market an incomplete product.
Alternate costumes, modes, sidequests - these things used to be a part of the game and should be part of the game.

EA putting Bioware up to expansion nonsense? Yes, because Bioware would have NEVER done anything like DLC in the past. Nothing at all. Except for the fact that they are traditionally a PC developer and all this DLC you children are so scared of destroying the industry used to come out once every 3-4 months in $30 retail packages and was called an Expansion Pack. But yeah, it's totally new this generation... fucking children.
But yeah, you know why we'll never see Nintendo pursue this? Because why do the DLC route when most of their Wii fanbase don't know the console can go online and traditionally scrapped ideas/chopped content can instead be finished and released as it's own disc? Why doesn't Nintendo do this? Super Mario Galaxy, that's why. That, or we can just yet again blame the general ineptitude of Japanese Developers understanding of this whole "internet tied to gaming" thing that effects 99% of Japanese Developers.

@sheppy
Day One DLC presented with the intent for you buy new is NOT "expansion content." Its withheld content.
.
Awakenings is a proper expansion, the other content is just withheld content. Its not hard to figure out.
I'm sorry if you missed it the last few generations, but things like unlockable costumes, extra levels and optional challenges were part and parcel of a game's experience. Yes, even when online first started to be a part of these things, we still had these things. I don't like that they're spirited away for the sake of sale now.

The ultimate flaw in the "DLC is just stuff cut from disc," argument is that 90% of the time no one has proof that that's true. It's always wild speculation and nerd rage because they have to spend $3 for an extra level that's uneccesary and doesn't affect your experience anyway.
I dig Bioware's approach which is make the little things free and make the bigger things, things that would traditionally be expansions, priced.
Still the hyperbolic knew jerk reactions over DLC over the past year or so have gotten so ridiculous it's sad. I remember when Bioware announced their ME2 launch day DLC would be free and all you heard was "WHAT!?! Launch day!?! Rabble rabble!" As if anyone really knows that it would've made it on disc (the thing is already two disc) plus it was free. Just the mention of DLC seems to put people in a funk. Everyone needs to calm down.
The fact is (1) DLC goes into the pipeline long before the game is released. This assures consistency and helps the dev and publisher manage their time. THAT'S why they act like launch day DLC is doing you a favor. Because they're trying to prove their hard work to keep the content flowing as quickly and efficently as possible. (2) As I've said before most of the time nobody has any proof that DLC, especially launch day DLC, actually could've made it on the disc. It's a knee jerk reaction and a wild assumption to justify nerd rage.
And at the end of the day it (usually) only enhances your experience. You almost never get shafted for not downloading DLC. People feel cheated, and rightfully so. I can understand why people feel like that. What I can't understand is their justification for it. If you don't like launch day DLC because you just get a shitty feeling in your gut say so. It's okay. It's okay to base your displeasure on feeling. But don't stomp around with a bullshit noble cause. You nullify your point. There's a difference between the consumer who says "I just don't feel comfortable with this practice," and the consumer that says "I'm being swindled."
Look at Borderlands. People praise Gearbox for waiting to talk about DLC. Do you honestly believe they waited that long to conjure it up, create the assets, pitch it, time it, and develop it? No. The DLC was made side-by-side with the disc. Just like it's done all the time. Hell even Rock Band does it. RB2 had 8 months worth of incomplete files on the disc all of which were DLC they were working on as the game was being made.
