An Introduction to William Blake - The Gamer Dad
Refused Classification | 7:55 PM on 09.25.2009 6 comments

There comes a time in everybodies life where they must accept the fact that they are outdated, aging and moving ahead in life. It is a natural occurrence that allows the younger generation to step forward and assume the role of the up-and-coming parents, guardians and safe keepers.

Many people loose track of their younger selves as this occurs and feel that they need to grow up. Shifting their interests to a more mature category...such as wine and cheese nights with friends instead of getting pissed in the back yard on a cask of cheap goon.

William Blake is here to inform us on his generation of gaming and recreational activities, and we (Refused Classification) are here to exploit his past and try to bring him up to date with the latest generations choice of fun. We hope you enjoy the first of what we hope to be many episodes through Destructoid.

For now, we feel you should first get to know the man who will attempt to bridge the gap between the old and the new, in terms of generational differences and gaming. We present to you...William Blake

Stay tuned for next week, where William Blake will make his first attempt on playing the Xbox360 and give us his impressions.

P.S - I wrote this entirely while taking a shit
P.P.S - Feel free to thrown us some suggestions on games William Blake should try out

I know it's a little dated, but can we get him to play Chrono Trigger? I want him to play Chrono Trigger.

That would be awesome.

What do you mean he's out of date. He's got his finger of on the pulse of current gen gaming.

What's that wii game that's like jenga. Should play that.

LOL! This should be interesting to watch! My husband is 52 and just took up gaming when he was 50... he'd never gamed on a console before and like Gamer Dad, his only previous experience was Asteroids at the arcade in his youth!

(it really does seem to be quite a learning curve for older adults new to gaming... I still remember seeing my husband sniping in Killzone and someone walked up to him and shot him point blank in the face and he was yelling about "how can he see me when I'm invisible!" I looked at him and said "the screen wasn't blue, you weren't invisible... did you turn your invisibility on?" He looked back at me and said "you have to turn it on?"
It turns out that with the Assault class having permanent armor, he figured that both disguise and invisibility were also permanent (until you moved)... and had been playing those classes without ever using the actual class perk... so sniping and thinking he was invisible ... and running around thinking he was disguised!! All I could think of was "NOOB!!" LOL!)

This should be fun!

I am not looking forward to Mr. Blake on a first person shooter, he doesn't even know how to use a controller properly...

We will make him a gamer yet!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
