I'll admit, it's been way way way too long since I have posted a blog, or anything useful really. This new job is kicking my ass. But, it brings the money in.
My story starts off on the 16th of November, when shortly after I got hired my parents surprised me with a trip to see really close family friends (we always got together on Thanksgiving, but because we all moved away, we missed last year.) We were to leave on the 21st and be back the 26th. I was more than stoked, as I got to see two of my best friends who I haven't seen in a long time. Good times were bound to come.
The first day I spent getting settled, hanging out my family (all three of them), and having a fun time. It was the great to see how much they changed and finally get away from fabulous Las Vegas***. Nebraska is quite a bit different than Vegas and it's very beautiful. The houses there with 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and 3000 square feet sold for about $160,000. Those houses would easily sell here for $4-500,000. It was crazy.
The second day was thanksgiving, and I slept in a lot because of the jet-lag and partying all night before. Unaware, the family we were staying with owned the PS3 version of Rock Band. This came to my attention as I heard the beating of the drum was rocking throughout the house. A few more alcoholic beverages into my dad(s), and the party really got to rocking. Wigs, guitar shaped glasses and ass-cracks a plenty were displayed as they rocked out to songs like Don't Fear The Reaper and Jukebox Hero. I was a little bit skeptical, but after playing Rock Band, Guitar Hero just does not come close. The guitar was great, except the strum button didn't seem to connect all the time, because, I believe, it didn't click like the Guitar Hero guitars do. It didn't matter though, it was still a blast to play, messing with the distortion switch and using the shred buttons at the bottom. The drum set was also amazing. The tapping of the drums was also not a problem, as the TV was turned up to max volume, to emphasize the rock™. It all worked seemlessly, and I was playing Creep and Black Hole Sun like a pro.
Then Friday came. My dad (miraculously) got up with my mom(s)[no, he's not a polygamist], and went to find deals. Best Buy had a deal for the Orange Box for $25. I also got paid that Friday. Guess who now has the Orange Box?
Then, later that night, I went to GameStop to see what all they had for purchasing. (I know, GameStop is bad, but I'd have much rather spent my money there than Wal-Mart.) GameStop was doing a buy two get one free deal also. I picked up skate., Gears of War and Dead Rising for $100. Pretty sweet if you ask me.
The next 2 days were spent faithfully glued in front of a TV, controller in hand playing all 3 Xbox games, saving the Orange Box for when I got home. I had one of the best times I've had ever really, and I'm so grateful to have been able to. Dead Rising has also inspired a new piece that I will be writing soon, so keep an eye out for that one.
P.s. Pictures will be put up when available.
***Las Vegas should be renamed Hell. Honestly, it's not cool to live here. It's a great place to visit, but just don't live here. It sucks.
This was a question I was pondering while playing God of War 2 in muh fish-costume with the Atlas Sword in hand. I bring up this subject because even though it was fun and dandy, I felt a little empty with the overall experience. Let me clarify.
When I beat a game, I look forward to finding what treasures and bounties I have unlocked. New costumes, crazy weapons, etc. But does this really add truly any replay-ability? Sure, you've got that styling gangster outfit for Leon, but do the ganados really care? It's cool, but only for about 10 minutes, when you realize gameplay and story doesn't change at all. It's the same story, same enemies, same bosses, just a new suit. And even in the cutscenes the new costume is left out and changed back into the default, which is a little weird. A big gripe I had about this was in God of War one and two. When I would unlock the costumes, I couldn't use them in Titan mode, which I would need to beat to gain more treasah. Come on, if I'm going to play the game again, I'd like to at least use some new costumes I gained. Please?
Weapons also throw things out of proportion too. It may be fun to shoot that angry boss with the infinite-rocket launcher, but the novelty wears thin after a few short minutes. If I'm going to have the Chicago Typewriter, can't they at least turn up the number of enemies? Or make them stronger? It's a little boring running through the game again (on the same difficulty rating, no less) with a weapon that makes you God-like in a way with nothing new thrown into the mix. It almost makes you want to not use your new toys in order to make the game somewhat fun/challenging. The end result feels like the producers threw them in at last minute and/or with minimal input. It's a nice touch, but doesn't really seem like it was thought out. I guess I shouldn't complain, yet I still feel a little let down with the way they were implemented.
Soooo yeahh, I've decided today was the day I would come back to my old (dad's old) account, and saw the nifty friends feature which reminded me of the Dtoid Steam community. Being the noob that I am on Valve, I'm going to see if I can change some shit, but I was wondering if I could get an invite for the Dtoid community?
My name is Reeper (crusher9tn)
Alsoooo, I wonder if da haloez will be coming to the Steamz? lol, Just kidding.
Btw, it's been a long time since I've done the blogging thing, and I have a forum question that really needs answering as it involves important matters (me).
It can be found here, and all help will be greatly appreciated and will be rewarded with a great prize (my eternal friendship and the stopping of using parentheses)
Also, why was I not informed of the Sci-Fi special on the one and only Halo 3? Because it's on right now, but it's part 3 of 3. Greg Grunberg from Heroes says "this is gaming." Laym.
So I just a little help. So I need a few T-shirt websites, besides Threadless and T-Shirt Hell. I saw one website that Cheifman (Cheiftan? Idfk) recommended and I thought it had some pretty badass stuff. But more would be appreciated as I'm a bit lazy when it comes to search engines that rhyme with moogle or wahoo...or whatever else engine you use.
Also, I see that the less you blog the lower in the ratings you go. It's sad to see my score slowly drop farther and farther into the pits of noobs and suckiness. Now at 104, I remember the good ol' days being at number 68. Blah.
So, Destructoid is once again hit that special time (which I find weird because 2 puberties is probably not good) and is going through changes. Again.
But this also begs a question that I'm sure someone has touched on already (because I'm slow when it comes to things). Will the ratings system hamper the Valhalla that is Dtoid? And why the fuck is Niero number 2? Who the fuck is this Jim Sterling that's number 1?
Back to the original question; will this make Dtoid become a somewhat more competitive place? Sure, it's cool to see the top 50 people that don't suck, but will that make others start filling the clogs with pointless banter about not sucking just to get more popular/recognized? This could even be pointed as a futile attempt at being ranked higher, but I come to Destructoid to read epic threads, Ron Workman's rantings, and Electro Lemon's shit. Not really to see who's number one in the ratings board. I will say though that it would be cool to be number one and receive some form of internet fame. Sadly I'm not a writer, and have no ability to insert humor into the vagina in my writings, rendering my posts useless. It always ends up in the belly button, leading to awkward situations and a cigarette way too early in the night.
But I digress.
Sure, it's cool to see that I'm number 68 out of 20+ thousand, and that my Dtoid score is way OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAANNANDNNNDDD!!!11ELEVEN!, but in the end it boils down to making Dtoid different, which I sure hope it doesn't.
Yes, SuperBad was a fucking epic movie. If you have the chance, or even don't have the chance, go see that movie. You will laugh until you vomit, it's that good.
Oh, and a more meaningful blog post is coming soon, but until then you can check out my awesome picture of me and my audition photo for teh Nerdcore:
