Virtual Reflections...snoitcelfeR lautriV
ReclusiveSpirit | 3:23 PM on 08.15.2008 12 comments

Virtual worlds. We have all journeyed to many of them over the course of our lives as video gamers. From the magical lands of Hyrule, all the way through the mean streets of Liberty City, we have traveled far and wide. But how about to the world outside our door?

A site called LivePlace.com wants to make that a virtual reality on your computer. They're using a 3D engine called OTOY that allows even underpowered computers, or possibly mobile phones, to display graphics comparable to those seen in Hollywood movies. OTOY has also been developed to work in any browser, with no plug-in needed. So it makes for very easy access to your virtual universe.

I'm not entirely sure what LivePlace.com's intentions are with this interesting project called City Space. A site called TechCrunch found out the domain's owner is Brad Greenspan, one of the co-founders of MySpace. To me, LivePlace and MySpace have a similar ring to them. And if you watch the video (14 min. 19 sec.) you can see that he may be advancing some of the ideas behind MySpace into a whole new virtual realm.

If this sort of stuff bores you, my apologies. But I find the technology involved in this fascinating. I must admit to being a tech junkie, and when I find something like this it causes my mind to wander into all sorts of areas. The potential that City Space presents makes me wonder towards the future of this great pastime of ours. I just want to be along for wherever the ride may take us.

After watching this video I came away with dozens of ideas on how this technology could be utilized in video games. From simple things such as custom designing your own base of operations, to leaving video messages (Or taunts at your enemies.) to your comrades-in-arms. These ideas are just mere tips on the proverbial iceberg. I'd love to hear what Destructoid has to say.

Note: 20 minutes after TechCrunch spoke to Brad Greenspan, LivePlace.com was shut down.

Addendum: Click here to see how OTOY wants to eliminate the need for a PS3, Xbox 360, or a high-end PC. Interesting stuff if you ask me.

Pac Man: The Horror Movie
ReclusiveSpirit | 12:16 AM on 08.15.2008 4 comments

Here's a little late night horror movie for you. I always kind of wondered (Yes...I am that strange.) how the Ghosts felt as Pac Man attempted to eat them. Well my friends, this "movie" attempts to answer that burning question of mine.

As you can plainly see, this video is from CollegeHumor. I hope you enjoy it, I thought it was pretty funny. I wonder if they will make a sequel starring Ms. Pac Man?

The Inevitable Alliance is EPIC

I'm sort of pressed for time today, but I just had to share this video with you all before I take off. I wish my mere words could do justice to the fine stop-motion work that was done in this mini-epic.

All I know, is that it must have been done with a lot of TLC. You can really tell that whoever made this truly loves superheros and their history.

Bravo my friend!

The Top 10 Most Difficult Games
ReclusiveSpirit | 7:49 AM on 08.13.2008 29 comments

A top 10 list of any kind can be so subjective. One person's experience playing a game will not be exactly the same as somebody else's. Having said that, I still think GameTrailers has put together a nice compilation of what they consider to be the top 10 most difficult games.

And in my humble opinion, picking F-Zero GX, for the GameCube, was just one of the many excellent choices on their list. Obviously no list would be complete without Ninja Gaiden. And I like how they just picked the entire series.

Another entire series makes this list that I absolutely agree with...but l don't want to spill the beans and spoil it for you. I'll let the video speak for itself. Oh, and I never beat the last game. How 'bout you?

Where the hell was Asteroids, Defender, and Berzerk?

"Evil Otto is in da house!!!"

For Sale: Every NES Cartridge Ever Made In Gray
ReclusiveSpirit | 2:28 PM on 08.12.2008 24 comments

You have to see this one for yourselves my friends. Someone is selling on ebay almost 700 NES games and a complete NES system for exactly $3800 dollars. In fact, it's everything you see in the picture above these words.

Here's what the seller has to say. This is it! Every NES cartridge ever made in a gray cartridge. About half the games have the instruction manual. This auction also includes a complete NES System with mint everything, including the posters and warrantee. A boxed Four Score with 2 extra controllers is also included, plus everything else you see on these pics.

It would take me forever to list every single game, but no worries mate! I have a pic of every individual game on nintendoearth.com which is also for sale. Every game and manual you see at nintendoearth.com is the exact item you will recieve.

This feat took me years and thousands to complete. This is my most prized collection which I do not want to give up, but I have some serious family issues where money is needed now.

Two of the games in this collection were never released into circulation for the fact of the SNES was already out. (California Raisins & Final Fantasy 2) The only reason I got my hands on these 2 is video game critics recieved them to review but they never came out.

This probably isn't something that I would buy at this moment in time. For starters, I wouldn't even begin to know where to put all of them! But it sure is awfully nice to look at...and to daydream about for awhile.

You can ebay it here.

Sexy Time PS3 Laptop of Win
ReclusiveSpirit | 10:53 AM on 08.11.2008 12 comments

Okay, I want you to scope out one more thing today. And it's pretty damn sweet looking if you ask me. It's a PS3 Laptop created by a modder called the Pirate. This was dropped off in PS3HaX Network a few days ago, and hopefully from there it get's dropped off at my house.

Apparently the Pirate was inspired by Modding Master Ben Heck and his own version of a PS3 Laptop. Talk about your attention to detail. I just love how the Playstation logo is set upon the cover of the laptop. And the blue start-up light is simply icing on the cake for me. If you're interested, he will do custom work for you. Here are his list of specs for the PS3 Laptop:

* 80gb SKU w/320gb HDD
* 17" 720p HDTV LCD Monitor
* Keyboard
* Built in speakers with headphone jack
* Custom cooling (SilenX fans)
* Size: 16 x 10.5 x 4 inches (when closed)
* Weight: 15 pounds

Here's a YouTube of it in action. Give it a play...MGS4 is gonna get put into this beauty.
