I was supervised when I used a BB gun until I was 16...my mom is awesome.

I owned a .22 since the day I was born, it was a gift from my grandfather. However, I never fired it until I was around 9, and even then I first had it drilled in my head never to point it at myself or others and to always treat it as if it was loaded. I was always supervised when I was firing it, and when it wasn't in use it was locked away. I haven't used it in over a decade, just because I eventually got bored with target shooting.
Gun control isn't the issue. Teaching proper firearm safety and making sure they're kept out of the hands of unsupervised children is.
