So I'm sitting here eating ice cream and I hear on the tv that they're planning to put medical warnings on violent video games because apparently it damages children, the game they have a main complaint about? BIOSHOCK now, I don't know about everyone else, but my copy of Bioshock has a big red and clear "18" on it, which I thought was rather clear.
So later on they say we need "Cinema style age ratings like 12+ and an 18+" which I find odd, because as I said earlier My copy of bioshock has a big red fat 18 plastered on it. Just like DVDS and Movies. Infact lets compare said warnings: Bioshock box art:
Saw 3 Dvd Box art:
Now, lets add the fact they show two little kids playing with a wiimote while they show scenes from Bioshock. Did they get a wii copy of this game early or something? because it's the first I've heard of it. And to top it all off, we have a post right here on the show's own forum stating: As far as I am aware all video games have had age ratings on them for years. So is this another cop out by parents blaming what their children do on someone else? The video games I have seen have been clearly labelled and surely if a games shop saw a 10 year old was buying an 18 rated game then they wouldn't sell it to them. Which is 100% correct there is infact a law stopping store clearks selling adult games to children, if they do so they'll suffer a substantial fine. They've just said that they will have the Prime Minister (Gordon brown) to talk about this subject later, so I will update then. Updated: Okay, so they have an 'expert' on and she said they need to change the way the the ratings are set. And apparently, according to the show host, the 3+ games are very violent they have mister incredible shooting things and smashing them around! my word! Someone emailed in talking about the age ratings, and said, they can't sell the games to kids etc, and that there's are age ratings and they can't sell them to kids etc, etc, etc which is good, but they bring up some BS excuse that children say "those are skill ratings not age ratings" bullshit, a parent isn't going to confuse 18+ for a skill rating. They're saying they need one simple classifacation for video games - but they DO have that, this doesn't make fucking sense where are they getting their information from? They've just sat and said "Parents don't wanna check their kids games because they're busy cooking or cleaning or whatever" Great, fucking educate the parents then, you dumb fucks, what can you possibly do to make it any more obvious? Put a big fucking banner on the game cases that says 'not for kids?' "The Video Game industry isn't making these games for children, they're making them for adults they make that very clear but the term 'Games' is missleading" Oh for christ sakes, shut the fuck up, you have to be some kind of inbred moron to not understand the big fat 18 plastered on their games, the same 18 rating that is on movies, tv, and dvds. Give me a break.

This game is 18+. 18+! this game is for players 18 and over. lololol 18!
The government need to walk into a game store for 5 mins and see that we aretaking care of this issue. Yesterday I refused 3 kids from buying games above their age, high five me please?
Sounds like a case of something being done; people still complaining, and to make it look like they're actively trying to rectify a non-existent problem the policy makers slap another label on it.
LUK WE'RE DOING SOMETHING BOUT THE DEVIL CHILDREN BUYING MURDER SIMULATORS LOL!!!11!!
Also: medical warnings? What kind of a medical warning are they going to put on there?
This?
I think parents with young children need to be educated though, I remember when GTA: San Andeas came out, the Game I brought it from was full of kids and their parents buying the game. Fair play to the staff at Game they advised each and every parent of the age rating of the game and its content but none of them were detered in buying it for their children.
I'm pretty sure if the media actually sat down with a gamer who could point out their numerous inaccuracies, they might realise they need to do a little more research before branding our pastime as a 'death simulator'. I'm actually quite surprised Jack Thompson wasn't sat there branding us all as killers.
My Mom Knew what the Ratings Ment without me even having to explain everything what "T" and "M" Ment only having said that ""E" is for Everyone" My Mom Said "Is "T" for Teen and "M"....FOR MATURE?!?!?!"
This was After we Got a Ebay Acution Item in the mail and the Guy threw in some extra stuff because we paid so quickly(including a Old Sega CD M Rated Game called "Corpse Killer")
I hadnt even Seen it yet and My Mom Was Freaking Out about what could be in it, like it was Porn (it was a Zombie related Game so any nudity in it would not be pleasant anyway)
But this is all so stupid.
A big fat no.
Same will happen with games.
Isn't it funny how the UK govenrment have no problems bitching about how parents bring up their kids, but on this issue the fail on pushing the education part of buying games.
I still agree with what is being said on the blogs though, there is an adequate rating system in place, the media and the government just seem oblivious to this and fail to educate parents on the issue.
I'd better get back and finish writing that book. Fast.
