Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Trying to prove to your friends that BluRays are nice is nigh impossible. Seriously. Unless they get what HD is, they might say something like "Oh, that's nice" and then secretly wonder why you would shell out so much money for that kind of tv.
I own both a 360 and a PS3, and currently, I play more games on the 360. By far. But the PS3 probably has more longevity, so if you are going to be paying about equal for them (and once you add up getting the HD and wifi, you probably are) then... yeah, I can understand going for the PS3. Its online component is a big pile of crap though.
Buy UT3 and I'll be happy to shoot you in the face.
Seriously though, you won't regret your decision.
Welcome to the darkside.
But if you don't play online and don't like Microsoft, and HAVE an HDTV, the PS3 might be your best bet.
I personally have all three of the current consoles and I love my PS3 and my Wii and my 4th 360 (3 RRoD's) has turned into a Valve wanna be machine.
PS3 By the end of the year: Probably the console of choice.
It's got a lot coming, your just going to have to wait a while.
hey sadie and razerangel what are your PSN IDs?
This year's lineup has me sold that it will be a great system and I'm not as scared to turn it on or keep it stored in my entertainment center. The only reason I was a bit hesitant is that it's a beast. I was thinkin of waiting for the slims to come out, but with the release of Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza in the west) Kenzan, I decided to take the plunge. The battle system in that game needs some work, but the story is freakin amazing with top notch production value. Plus, it's a must for when u need to see 8 year old girls getting sold in prostitution slavery. Cant have enough of that in a video game (damn Japan and their not-so-hidden addiction to pedophilia) But how dare you judge!! It's a culture thing!! Anyway, I digress. People use to say the Wii60 was the way to go, but I think not. It's all about the PS360. Enjoy your new purchase!
If you like to tinker, I think the PS3 is an unsung media server. I use it for streaming music / movies quite frequently. As for games, Uncharted is a good bet, along with UT3 and Warhawk if you want to play online with dtoid peoples. COD4 and Burnout Paradise are good recent multiplatform releases.
However, to correct someone above, the 360 wifi adapter is NOT $120 CDN-- I was in Future Shop yesterday and saw one for $30.
its accepting the rape, because you cant rape the willing
Also the fact that time and time again the developers proove to us that games are made o the 360 first then ported to the ps3. I dono.. personally I think the 360 would of been a more fun choice. However PS3 for metal gear and final fantasy, so while your playing with those I'm crying in a corner.
oh and its a healthy launch console :-p
the ps3 just does not have many games worth playing... and when people say its line up looks good to me i just think WTF... MGS and FF and Haze...thats it... wow.. 3 games.. any others?
Getting a decent HDMI cable today (not getting a crap one like a mate got.
