Intending to buy a PS3 today.

I've been thinking about it for some time, wondering if getting a 360 was better. I dont game much online anymore and frankly I despise windows live and Microsoft in general after years of working with shite O/S and PCs.

I know there have been cuts on 360s, but I cant warrant the money for an elite when I can get a PS3 with Blu Ray for £230 ish (we have 20% staff discount over easter for hitting sales targets 2 months early).

Looking at Blu Ray players the dam things cost about £150 ish for a basic one, unless you want a pc mounted one.

OK there are a few games I'd love to play (Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey) that are only on 360 but the reliabilty of 360s is an issue as I have friends who's have died.

I have a nice Sony Bravia 26" HD TV so thats not an issue, and good reliable , wireless net access.

Anyone got any thoughts?

The only thing that I think's a real scam with the 360 is the $120 (CDN) Wifi adapter. That's ridiculous. As long as you get a PS3 with a packed-in wifi, you're getting a better deal. If you do get a PS3, try to get the ones that are backwards compatible. Honestly, that's the thing I've been using the most on my PS3.

Trying to prove to your friends that BluRays are nice is nigh impossible. Seriously. Unless they get what HD is, they might say something like "Oh, that's nice" and then secretly wonder why you would shell out so much money for that kind of tv.

I own both a 360 and a PS3, and currently, I play more games on the 360. By far. But the PS3 probably has more longevity, so if you are going to be paying about equal for them (and once you add up getting the HD and wifi, you probably are) then... yeah, I can understand going for the PS3. Its online component is a big pile of crap though.

Meh, as long as your happy with your purchase then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. As long as you enjoy some gaming, good luck to you.

HDMI cables ftw!

But if you don't play online and don't like Microsoft, and HAVE an HDTV, the PS3 might be your best bet.

I personally have all three of the current consoles and I love my PS3 and my Wii and my 4th 360 (3 RRoD's) has turned into a Valve wanna be machine.

PS3 Now: A joke compared to 360
PS3 By the end of the year: Probably the console of choice.

It's got a lot coming, your just going to have to wait a while.

Yeha, I just picked up a PS3 recently as well after only having a 360 for about a year and a half now. The Blu-Rays are definitely nice, especially now that it won the war (I recommend getting Kung Fu Hussle).

This year's lineup has me sold that it will be a great system and I'm not as scared to turn it on or keep it stored in my entertainment center. The only reason I was a bit hesitant is that it's a beast. I was thinkin of waiting for the slims to come out, but with the release of Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza in the west) Kenzan, I decided to take the plunge. The battle system in that game needs some work, but the story is freakin amazing with top notch production value. Plus, it's a must for when u need to see 8 year old girls getting sold in prostitution slavery. Cant have enough of that in a video game (damn Japan and their not-so-hidden addiction to pedophilia) But how dare you judge!! It's a culture thing!! Anyway, I digress. People use to say the Wii60 was the way to go, but I think not. It's all about the PS360. Enjoy your new purchase!

I just sold my 360 on eBay recently. I was tired of putting up with all of Microsoft's BS. PS3 is the way to go. Despite what people say, there are some great games on PS3. UT3 and Uncharted are a good way to start.

Mass Effect is gonna be on PC in May, and it's going to be a significantly BETTER game for it, so just play that on the PC.

Mass Effect? Isn't that the generic shooter where you can upgrade your weapons?

Mass Effect is pretty boring. You're not missing out on much.

If you're just now getting into things, the PS3's game library should be sufficient. Multiplatform releases are now pretty much in line with the 360, and hopefully in-game XMB will help PSN rivel LIVE, assuming Sony pulls it off well. I don't game online with strangers, but it is nice to hop on with a few friends every now and then.

If you like to tinker, I think the PS3 is an unsung media server. I use it for streaming music / movies quite frequently. As for games, Uncharted is a good bet, along with UT3 and Warhawk if you want to play online with dtoid peoples. COD4 and Burnout Paradise are good recent multiplatform releases.

There's some great stuff out there for PS3. I intend to get one once they release the MGS4 pack.

However, to correct someone above, the 360 wifi adapter is NOT $120 CDN-- I was in Future Shop yesterday and saw one for $30.

I'm waiting for the PS3 to come packed-in with rumble controllers or at least with HD cables (of some kind). Until then, no dice.

I joined last week and bought a PS3. Grabbed one of the 80gb bundles before we sold out of them. I have to say, having had a 360 since about 4 months after its launch, I'm enjoying the PS3 more in the matter of a week. The main menu design and the multimedia features really outshine anything that the 360 can put forth. And I bought warhawk and UT3 yesterday. So all is right with the world. You're making the right choice.

I don't know why people are bothered with teh elite. The premium also have a HDMI port and unless your planning to use the movie service every day I am still trying ot fill up my 14gb's. I think you'd have more fun with the 360 and it would be more cost effect seeing as we get raped for games in the UK and the 360 has cheaper games out of hte 2 consoles.

Also the fact that time and time again the developers proove to us that games are made o the 360 first then ported to the ps3. I dono.. personally I think the 360 would of been a more fun choice. However PS3 for metal gear and final fantasy, so while your playing with those I'm crying in a corner.
