Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Nippon Ichi is the maker, developer, and publisher of Disgaea after Atlus U.S.A. failed to meet demand on Disgaea: Hour of Darkness in 2003, causing the price of the game to rise to a meteoric $180 on the open market.
Brigadine is a Hearty Developer game.
You missed the boat on Atlus U.S.A. on next-gen consoles, with Operation Darkness, Baroque, and Spectral Force 3 already ported.
Regardless, only one thing matters...Brigandine really is that effing amazing. Best turn-based strategy RPG ever.
Atlus vs. Square? Well that's something entirely different...
Enix usually made shit too. Tri-Ace was their only good subsidiary, until Square got their hands on them too.
Atlus used to suck shit but now they are fucking awesome.
Atlus wins. Always and forever.
And yes, Atlus has had nothing to do with the Makai games after they published Disgaea that first time. Nippon Ichi Software America(NISA) has handled all the games since Phantom Brave. Although, it's worth noting that they're very close with Atlus and they sometimes do printing deals where Atlus handles some of the print load for their games.
You may find them quite a bit more challenging though, but they are still traditional RP's (at least Persona 1 and 2 is).
Some of those awesome GBA games Atlus released were called Summon Night: Swordcraft Saga. You know, while SE was busy releasing ports of SNES games to bathe in the fanboy dollar.
Another reason to <3 Atlus.
It's great that both publishers are still doing there thing in the present day and age. So long as they both keep publishing/developing great games, we all win.
i find my self sucked in by the cover art and then getting bored of the characters inside.
buuuuut.... Square Soft > Atlus
(Atlus > Enix) + (Atlus > Square) = Atlus > SE
p.s. Enix > Square
no.
they fail.
Historically they've never published anything as good as Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger, so if you're taking that into account it's kind of hard to go with Atlus.
And for the record, this games suck: Kingdom Hearts, SaGa Frontier, Final Fantasy VII.
