VG Music Go!
Hell yeah. If your here on this site, you like some VG music, I don't give a damn where it's from tetris or MGS you like the music you whore. With the ever growing avenue of the tubes of internet, the room for remixed music has become more rampant. However, an even smaller niche has grown that I like to think of as "Creative Recreations"
What is a creative recreation, you say? Well, if you click Me You'll get to listen to guile's stage in SF2, recreated in glorius 16-bit on of all things, Mario Paint. Besides the simple amazingness of both the music and Mario paint should be enough to satisfy your fizzled brain, what you should consider is how fun and rewarding these sort of creations are to do. And, you don't even need to use any multimedia applications.
Simply pick up your axe, and go crazy on the beat. Classic Megaman 2 music, learn the tags and go at it. The best aspect of playing a song in this fashion, is the feeling of actually creating the notes yourself. If you haven't tried this, go right now to your local music store, and steal an intrument to play. The feeling of hitting those notes in time with the song feels so hot, that i usually find myself grabbing tissues when i'm done doing performances. And if your going to complain that you can't use the damn guitar like everyone else, sod off. Every damn instrument can do this well, it just takes a little thought and love.
And don't give me any of that bull that you can't grab yourself an instrument, cause your the damn instrument in most cases. I'm sure that this has happened to everyone in some way or manor
Of course, your not required to use a bunch of 20 drunk english men who might remind everyone in north america of on Mr Sterling. But being able to create music tunes of your favourite games whenever you feel like it using yourself as the instrument, is just full of good vibes.
So what should you take out of this post? Not much really, perhaps a small kindling of inspiration to try to make some fun music? Or at the very least, sing your ass off in the shower the next time you do decide to clean that gamer body, and let the neighbour's know how much you love snake eater.
Nice post. One thing I used to really get into was learning the scores to a bunch of classic games. There's a program out there (probably several, I used Sibelius), that can output sheet music to read from a *.midi file. Man, I used to just troll VGmusic.com downloading midi's and learning songs in my free time on the trumpet.
You are most indeed welcome. Really good write up for a first timer, and since you like a lot VG Music, you should check the Musical Attack Monday (totally not made by me..honestly >_>).
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
