Surfing the gaming sites I frequent today, yeilded a news post on GameRevolution about the death of D&D co-creator Gary Gygax.
After reading the story, I could not help but reminisce about the times when me and my friends sat around a table in one other friend's basement exploring dungeons, slaying mythical creatures, and having a lot of fun in the process. Those times were fun and so far in between that each time we got together to play D&D it was not something we just did, it turned into an event. Hour after hour ticked away as we played, leveling our characters, progressing through our story, rolling a whole lot of dice.
D&D is responsible for the modern RPG, all of the underlining of RPGs were practically first present in D&D, such as leveling, classes, and hit points. If it wasn't for D&D who know were the modern RPG would be now?
So I bid farewell to such a brilliant mind and thank him for his work.
How sad. Thanks to him so many great RPGs (tabletop and video games) exist to us. He was truly a pioneer and his brilliant work will be appreciated by all of us for many many years.
damn most of the greatest RPGS had roots with D&D sad to see one of its root die out like that. Kudos to you Gary Gygax for starting the RPG we have today.

I enjoy in the partaking of video games, critically looking at games and ranting about them.
Also I watch anime and read manga. It's mostly mainstream stuff, though I do like to dive into the old school stuff every once in a while.
I listen to rock, punk and metal. I'll listen to anything that is not reggaeton (if you have never heard it consider yourself blessed). Also, The Misfits is the best band ever.

You beat me to it, RIP Gary, I never got to play D&D (always wanted to) but he has paved the road to the way of the RPG. Thank you for that.

@Imp
Sorry man, for posting it first. But you are right, we should all thank him for what he and Dave Arneson started.

Penny Arcade has stated succinctly pretty much everything that can be said about this sad, sad day:
I bet his creation of D&D was much like Robert Oppenheimer to the Nuclear Bomb.
I haven't played a ton of D&D, but you gotta give him credit for inspiring tons of video game mechanics.
