Why. I'm glad you asked!
The Pandora can be seen as the spiritual successer to the GP2X. What is the GP2X you ask? You really should know by now, but it's a hand held centered around homebrew and multimedia, made by the Korean company Game Park Holdings. The reason that the Pandora came about was because the GP2X was Korean, and the Koreans never really got us Westeners, for example they fucked the Joystick to hell, and the screen was all interlaced when it moved. There are many other reason such as the GP2X just being based on a strange system that developers found it hard to use to it's full power and It's lack of 3D processing.
Now the Pandora came about when Craigix and his bunch (you don't need to know who they are, but you can find more at the pandora website, at the end of this blog post) decided if you want something, you might as well do it your self. After much searching around, companies telling that creating the Pandora was stupid Texus Industries got in contact with Craig and decided to let them use a new chip, before any one in the world, Nokia and big name companys like that.
Now thats how the Pandora came about, what is the Pandora. At it's heart the Pandora is a Opensource console that runs linux. Now the great thing about the Pandora is that it has many, many, MANY talented coders from the GP2X scene coding for it. So that means on launch we can expect things like all the usual emulators, but some more advanced things like the possibility full Speed PS1 and N64 emulation. The console has a touch screen for easy mouse, and and a clam shell design for portablity.
The specs of the Pandora are
* ARM® Cortex™-A8 600Mhz+ CPU running Linux
* 430-MHz TMS320C64x+™ DSP Core
* PowerVR SGX OpenGL 2.0 ES compliant 3D hardware
* 800x480 4.3" 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
* Wifi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth & High Speed USB 2.0 Host
* Dual SDHC card slots & SVideo TV output
* Dual Analogue and Digital gaming controls
* 43 button QWERTY and numeric keypad
* Around 10+ Hours battery life

But that blog was about something else. This is about what the pandora is.
@Mee
Thanks!
I'm sure I put a pic in there. Where the hell did it go?
There must be some gremlins here!
Yea an edit would have been fine but at least you gave more info. Put in some pictures too. I like pictures. And I am intrigued about this Pandora you speak of.
Ah, got a photo now.
Welcome to Destructoid, I love you.
I would love one of these! But I bought the GP2X a few years back and I got tired of it pretty quickly. So I think I'll pass, it's an awesome system though.
the only thing i found useless on the pandora is the second SD slot, but i guess some people will like that. at least the SD cards arent as expensive as Sony Memory Sticks. i found a 2gig sd card for 10 bucks!
@MrSadistic
I love you too <3
@Stuvning
Ah, I enjoy the messing around with every thing that comes with Linux, so It's a must buy for me, and won't be riddled with the flaws that the MK.1 F100 had
@Mee
And I saw 8GB ones for like £15 quid, wanna fight about it? ;)
And having two is awesome, for stuff like. Having more space. And yeah. Having more space.
Holy crap, that thing looks absolutely amazing. The geek in me just exploded.
@Pedrovay2003
You know, that sounds really gay.
But yes, that thing is absolutely amazing, if you want one by the end of the year, you have to order before Sunday! So be as quick as you can, if you want one!
Sick pic. I wish I had the money to spend on it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I went to the Pandora site and couldn't find a thing about it. Odd. Looks like a pretty sweet device, though.
You'll have to tell us what you think of it after you've really used it a bunch, you proper blogger, you.
@Spartacus
Hmm, that is odd!
And yes, I will try to give Dtoid a little reveiw when I get it, which will be after christmas due to Santa-Faggotry.
When I have money, I will make love to one of these.
this thing is awesome cause it runs the ARMel debian port which means you can use to apt-get lots of software
