I'm almost sure I'll be escorted to the forums after posting this blog but too bad, I need to vent.
So it's only 3 more hours until GTA is launched, seeing as I live in Australia however I decided to order the uncensored (read: whoreishly amazing) version of GTA from play-asia. It however never dawned on me that customs could class this as a "restricted or prohibited good(s)". My brothers friends dad is a customs officer and apparently they are prohibiting the import of all uncensored versions of GTA. Yea I know... friend of a friend, doesn't sound like a reputable source.
A quick check on the customs website however reveals this...
Pornography and other objectionable material (restricted import)
"Includes computer games, computer generated images, films, interactive games and publications that describe, depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime cruelty, violence, terrorist acts or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults."
Has anyone had any experience importing games before, I've bought plenty of games off of ebay from overseas before, personally I think it sounds a bit hard to enforce but maybe that's me just wishfully thinking.
For what it's worth, i live in NZ and imported a US copy of Manhunt. Though it wasn't banned here at the time it was before it got a rating. You might be okay, like you say it's hard to enforce so it's up to whether the person x-raying your parcel happens to recognise what an uncensored gtaiv looks like.
I guess I'll take it as it comes, I'm just hoping that if it does get denied at customs I'm able to get my money back in some way. I've ordered 2 copies, 1 for me and 1 for my friend.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Australia is oddly conservative for a country founded by criminals, don't you think?
Australia is such a silly country, with their dumb laws and Kangaroos.
Throw me a boomerang with $100 taped to it and I'll toss it back with an uncensored GTA.
TrailerParkJesus making a profit.....

@TrailerParkJesus: I'm not quite sure you're familiar with how a boomerang works.
