The greatest day in our american history
Qraze | 10:34 AM on 01.20.2009 49 comments

Few days have been considered great, D-day, the immancapation(i know i spelled it wrong) proclamation, MLK's brave speech about "a dream", the end of WW2, landing on the moon, the first African-American president. Few days are great and this one is perhaps the greatest and its our generations to witness.

Over a million wait for the historic inaugaration. Over a million, the world is fixed to their tv's from China to Africa and everywhere in between, they know it too, billions are watching. Over one million little America flags waving in the crowd, cheering in unison "Obama, Obama!" This is the day when America has transended once again for freedom, change, peace and now race. Today is that day.

I'm sorry for writing a non-gaming blog but i just have to let you know that I, feel this is our greatest day. A day when we can ask each other where and what we were doing this day. Almost similar to another day, a not so great day but that the scale of both is perhaps equal.

Today will go down forever in greatness and will never be wiped from a history book, for now history books will have to re-written to cover this one day.

We have a new President. President Obama.

That's all i wanted to say, sorry for taking up your time.
Today is the greatest day in American history.

I believe you're forgetting September 22, 1987 - the broadcast premiere of Full House.

I thought you left dtoid in a fit of drama over the events of a few weeks ago.

I left because a) I had explosive diarrhea for a few weeks and b) I came back and saw the raping of the c-blogs and it made me want to turn my back on this place. I realized now that even though this place is sorta like a retarded step-child who you want to suffocate by shoving a pillow to their face while they quietly sleep, I cannot come to such a decision. I feel it is my duty to keep spreading my love across everyone's face, and keep everyone on here jolly.

I don't know, I kinda like the word "immancapation", makes me think of beheadings and such.

And I liked Sadistic better when he was dawn of the dead and not completely predictable.

Not even close. It's an historic day, but the greatest? He's just another politician, and you know, we still have basically the same Congress. Plus, I don't consider hiring a bunch of Clinton aides "fundamental" change. We'll see how things go, but don't be naive.

Thank you! Someone has a brain around this place. For the rest, I hope your messiah does well, but according to his own plans, expect a forecast of huge failure. Also, this is a historic day, but it's not even close to the greatest day in our history. I love how everyone brings up MLK, but they forget that MLK wouldn't have voted for Obama because he was black, unlike many others have. MLK was an awesome man and an individual with principals, but Obama is nothing but a politician who constantly repeats campaign rhetoric.

whiteskwirl, its the greatest day not for who he is but for what our past of america is. its the greatest because 60 years ago a black man couldn't use the same restroom as a white man. if you don't see this day that america has changed so much that a black man can become president where just 8 years ago it was unheard of and even laughed at, then thats your opinion, it don't change mine.

tupac said it best, "even though it seems heaven sent, we ain't ready for a black president". we are ready now.

Well, gay people still can't get married, so there's still plenty of work to be done. And personally I would say black people being freed from slavery is a better day for our history than this. Also universal suffrage is a better day than this.

Like I said, today is historic, but I don't think it's the greatest day in our history. I'm not trying to change your opinion about that, however. I'm just stating mine.

It really doesn't matter shit. It doesn't matter that he's black, or chinese or latin american, he's another politician. To see beyond his skin color (and know that he's really the same) is what matters.
That said, I don't see the change he can bring.

Also they turned the sound down when Bush Sr. and Jr. came in so that people wouldn't hear the Boos. That's nice fascism right there so no i don't think America is saved even with Obama.

@Qraze: I'm happy to hear that you are so passionate about Barack Obama becoming our 44th President. If you really are as passionate as I think you are, then I don't think there's anything anyone could say that would convince you that today is not truly the greatest day in American History.

There are so many other incredibly important days that lead up to this one that I can't imagine I personally could ever call this the greatest day in America History. How about the day the Declaration of Independance was signed, or the day we won the Revolutionary War? How about the day the Constitution was signed, or the day the North won the Civil War? What about the day that women could finally vote, or the day when black people could finally vote?

These events I listed are not days that had to do with one person, but days that changed millions of people's lives. I just have a hard time putting them on the same level as today. I'm happy a black man could become president, and I personally think today is a GREAT DAY, but I just can't say it's the greatest day, because without all those other days, today would have never even been possible.

I should've just said that by turning down the boos, they were eleminating their freedom of speech. If the audience thinks Bush Sr. and Jr. are rotten bastards, let them boo. Deprieving someone of their freedom of speech is a serious offence.

but they were not depriving anyones freedom of speech, it was about the inaugaration, not the people who were there to witness it. you heard the boo's right? so they weren't shut off, just turned down so we could hear the thing.

and manipulation of media is a totally different thing then what you think it is. does the media say that Bush is greatest president ever? no, quite the opposite actually.

@Qraze

What part of "Also they turned the sound down..." don't you understand? Of course we didn't hear the boos if the sound was off. That's the whole point of turning the sound down, so that the people watching the tv don't hear the boos. Now i wish i was there at the inauguration so i could've heard all the boos. But Qraze you are right, a million people strong audience booing the Bush family really is America's greatest day.

I don't think a lot of Americans understand how important this day is for the rest of the world as well. When was the last time that an American politician could travel the globe and not only have people come and cheer for him, but wave American flags in support?? It's unheard of. The world has never been so captivated by an American election. This man is uniting the world. The Bush Era is over and the healing process can begin.

Obama represents a new future for the US, for the world.
