Good lord. I can understand that the (relatively young) cashier and manager might've been a bit hesitant -- what with all of the pressure on retailers to enforce the ESRB ratings -- but when you're pushed to the point of busting out your ID and you *still* get the runaround? That's absolutely ridiculous. Same goes for the Xbox Live card; I would've just walked out of the store and shopped elsewhere.

Incidents like this will usually result in me refusing to shop at a store, period. Don't let idiots have your business.

That's poor management overall. It's a manager's responsibility to know the details of what they sell and make sure that those details are properly conveyed to their employees. If the employee doesn't know, that can be understandable, but the manager should. I realize they have a lot of products that they sell in a Best Buy, but being aware of the rating system for games isn't difficult and he never should have brought legality into it (mention company policy if you must, but don't tread on legal ground).

The article's conclusion has the best advice: ask to speak with a superior. Keep going up the chain, whoever happens to be avaialble. No higher manager in store? Ask for the phone number of a district manager and call them in-store in the presence of the manager if you can. If you can't get through or they don't solve your problem, go to corporate and call while you're occupying that man's time. Be vocal and let it be known both to the management and to those within a reasonable hearing distance that you will no longer be giving your business to that company and you'll do everything in your power to ensure that your friends and family do the same. You go high enough, someone will bend over backwards to keep your business.

without sounding nasty i dont think this would happen over here as you know for a FACT that when you go in to a game store you'll have either a zealous hardcore gamer or some little 'tard who has almost realised that you cant use pc games on a wii or other consoles, even if the discs look the same shape, which leads to you being able to determine the best strategy for dealing with the 'customer sales assistant'

That's uncalled for and ridiculous. I can see not selling a game to a minor, unaccompanied, but if they are with a parent or guardian, or someone older that knows what's in a game THEY'RE BUYING FOR THEMSELVES, then that's just stupid. I've heard of people being stubborn, but still. That store, manager, and employee are retarded.

Besides, how is it any better if the underage person waits outside? I've been on liquor runs where, if I don't have my ID and go inside, they WILL NOT sell, regardless of the "go-out, come-back-in" policy. F'n ridiculous.

Technically, B&H, it is considered a guideline for selling. And if noone gave a damn about purchases made, then good ol JT would have alot more ground to stand on. This is just a stupid example of how wrong it can go when one person considers themselves of a higher law then others. It's like W. Bush was working at the store, and God told him he couldn't sell this to them because "they may be terrorists".
