IGN has put their review up today/last night and they don't seem to like it very much. Read the thing
here.
They say that the Nectar system makes the game too easy when you play on the Mantel side. Wasn't that kind of the point? To make the "dark side" of the corporate warmachine more effective and efficient? Well, apparently it makes the game really boring to play..
And what's worse, once you switch sides you apparently don't have a sense that the opposition uses it as well as you just did in the first half of the game. IGN also mentions shitty AI and the usual stuff that's always there if you want to whine about it.
Multiplayer seems to be good, while the graphics suck:
"The worst example of this has to be the visuals for the flamethrower, the Dragon de la Gente, which vomits a horrid cone of supposed flame that looks visually on par with what you'd find from the 386 PC days 15 years ago."
Ouch! I guess it didn't live up to expectations eh? Or maybe they didn't get enough ad moneyz.
Rob Yescombe responded to their review on
some place, mentioning how GoldenEye got a 4/10 too. Yeah..
The only reason I cared about this game was the story, which they SAID would be awesome and deep. Without that, it's probably just another generic FPS. If this has already been posted, I blame Aerox.
Here's a quote from the Onion A.V. Club review:
"Haze features a fairly sophisticated subtext, at least by videogame standards. It's a meditation on war, politics, propaganda, and even steroid culture. Pondering the various meanings of the game's title is, at times, more interesting than the game itself."
I'll be picking it up mostly for the CO-OP. Should at least be entertaining.
Ron Workman gives everything 11/10.
You know where the money goes, developers. Right here.
Also: where the hell is the edit your blog option and the list of older posts to edit/make live?
Ok, honestly, I did get the sense of a great story. But with MGS4 level story right around the corner?
Smudging Haze between GTA4 and MGS4 was a bad idea. No way a new IP can compete with the heavy guys.
Just look at the screenshot above. Where the fuck is everything in the environment? Just looks poorly made to me.
I wish this was still coming out for 360, 'cause I'd love to get my hands on it and try it for myself. But, from what I've seen, I'm not really surprised by such a review at all. They make valid points, such as a weak story, weak gameplay, poor AI, etc. They offered real criticisms and backed up their arguments, can't fault 'em for that.
Honestly, I wanted this game to be good, hoping this and a few other titles would justify buying a PS3. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and everyone loses. (I'm still gonna hold onto that sliver of hope that the rest of the reviews will be good)
Oh, and who the hell gave Goldeneye a 4/10? Link?
This makes it even funnier. In this article, people are comparing HAZE to Crysis, with some fanboys saying Haze looks better.
Fucking IGN.
