Last night’s GTA FNF was pretty crazy. Starting off with the Euro crew, we tried to find an icecream truck in Free mode so we could spawn it at the airport. This turned out to be an epic fail, because we didn’t find ONE in around 30 minutes of searching for it…
We tried to hop into Snaileb’s game to get more people together, which led to The_Young_Scot’s unfortunate XBL failure at connecting. At some point after hosting it again myself, he could join. But by then we also lost around 30% of the people in the process. Or more, the whole night is a bit blurry in my memory :)
It was mostly a mix of free mode while trying to get people invited, cops ‘n’ crooks, GTA races and some team deathmatch throughout the night. Sometime around 2am CET, it was only Gemsi, me and another euro guy (sorry I can’t remember most of the GT’s from last night) in some team deathmatch against two cali chicks and a random other team. Because we were a team of three vs. two teams of two, we raped them quite a bit! Gemsi called it a night and I took a break myself. Only to instantly fall into the start of US FNF and an invite message galore.
A lot of people had trouble connecting, which was really a pain. Since we already had a game with around 10 people including Grim by that time, changing hosts again would probably mean more connection troubles than it would solve. Eventually P0WER GL0VE joined us for a round or two before hosting his own game. I dunno how that worked out; hopefully the people who couldn’t connect at first were able to connect to him. Note: texting other people to join p0wer gl0ve is the worst thing since cancer. XBL really needs a multi-send option (if it’s not already there)!
Voice chat was a bit fickle too. I got like 40 voice messages about things, but most of the time I couldn’t hear anything because the ingame chat was practically never silent. I just invited whoever sent a message when I could, which was not always as easy to do in the middle of a race. But I think it worked out in the end since we had a full room most of the time in the 2nd half of the night. If someone knows how to mute the game channel when there are no other active channels, please let me know :)
Some notes for next week’s GTA (360) FNF or in the future: maybe it’s an idea to setup the two (or more) hosts before FNF starts. Me being in the EU probably has something to do with connection troubles, so it would be nice if people could try another host when one fails. We ended up doing that last night as well, but maybe it’s helpful for people if they know what to do before they start, instead of having to figure it out right in the middle of things.
Also, I dunno what error message it gives you when you try to join a full room. Sometimes when there was an open spot, I invited people who couldn’t get it before or who were waiting to join for a while when the room was full. But it’s possible that some people tried to join at that time and came in when the room was already full again.
Maybe we could make a code for FNF. Like, text INV if you want an invite or ERROR if you have trouble connecting. And PG for P0WER GL0VE so that I don’t have to type out his GT in that terrible XBL texting thing. I figured that voice messages would also make you say stuff in the ingame chat, and I couldn’t hear if my voice was intelligible anyway, so I ended up texting everyone.
There seems to be more than enough enthusiasm for playing GTA IV. Power Glove, if you read this, maybe we can jointly make some system and use that in next friday’s cblogs so that people know how to get the message across and how to fix it if they are unable to join? I think that it would definitely help everyone if we could streamline around XBL's shortcomings, like seeing instantly who is in a room with who and hooking someone up with another person without any hassle.
Rounding it up, it was still a night of lots of fun and epic. It was well worth the hassle that GTA’s fickle online code gave us. Sorry to the people who were unable to join, or if it took a couple of minutes to get you in.
Finally a Protip: pressing Y during GTA Race allows you to use SUPER GRENADES and lead to epic lulz. I think someone nearly died during all of that.
Also:
And Christiangamers's voice is southern sex
Yeah, shut up. I know I'm an idiot.
And yeah, I wish the hud would should that...
Don't remind me about that race. I died somewhere around 15 times.
In closing I love you all.
Also, Ice Cream Truck racing for the fucking win.
