The Media VS Video Games.

When you were younger have your parents ever told you that you shouldn’t play video games because they’re violent? If you have I’m sure you know how annoying that is. In recent years this topic has been wide spread. The media also insist how children’s behaviour is linked to the fact that they play video games. The other day I heard the radio warning parents on how violent Grand Theft Auto is. GIVE ME A BREAK. If I hear one more time how Grand Theft Auto causes kids to act violent, I swear I will puke. Like seriously, do you think that after I play Grand Theft Auto that I’m going to go out and rob a car? That’s so full of shit because every time something wrong happens these days the media will try to point the finger at someone else. Seriously, if your kid is out of control, I’d call that bad parenting and video games should not be blamed. If I had to guess I’d say the people who say these comments are probably depressed because they sucked at games as a child.

I remember when I was younger my parents thought that I needed to grow up because I played too many video games. I don't think they ever thought about violence or whatever. Honestly if someone ever has violent tendencies because of a video game, they were most likely there in the beginning.

Before video games it was D&D. It will always be something.

My parents were always fine with me playing madly violent video games. They trusted me to not go insane and kill people. I knew it was wrong and I was always able to control my temper with the games and people I've dealt with.

The games are clearly labeled with ratings, but parents just don't read the labels for the kids. So who should the media supposedly blame: parents. Parental filtering is best because they know their child the best. The ratings server to help parents better select which game they feel is best for their child.

It's because parents don't raise their kids, they get Playschool toys, tv and videogames to do it for them.

When I was young, I watched all kinds of violent films and played violent games, the difference was my Grandfather or Dad were watching it with me to put it into perspective.

Another problem is an age old one. Old media hate new media. So we're gonna keep hearing about this till something else comes along. Nothing has changed, first we had toy guns making kids violent, then comics, then TV and now games.

Finally, yep, it's the "blame everything but the complex social causes" syndrome. The interwoven inimic social problems that any society has a hard for the common chud to figure out, let alone solve. Hence the habit of humans to say "It's evil spirits, witches, Jews, games", or any other simple group to pin the problem on. Rather than looking at the ergot growing on the wheat, your poorly managed society and economy emerging from a destructive war, or violent human instincts that persist despite having no relevance to todays society respectively.

Best to do is ignore it, but if you must reply, always be on your best behaviour, regardless of how justified the anger, or you will feed the stereorype.
