Nobody thought Cable news would fly but Ted Turner thought otherwise and launched CNN. His empire grew and Turner a Wrestling fan bought Jim Crokett Promotions and renamed it World Championship Wrestling. For years it flounded before eventually going toe to toe with the World Wrestling Federation. However several excutive shake ups a bunch of stupid business moves caused WCW to have huge drops in raitings. The Product would stabilize a bit near the end and signs things were looking up were present. However when Time Warner merged with AOL Ted Turner didn't have the Pull with his networks that he used to and an Executive decided that WCW wasn't worth the time on Turner Networks and WCW was pulled from the air waves and Sold to WCW. That Excutive's name was Jamie Kellner. He's also the Asshole that killed Animanacs,Pinky and the Brain, Batman the Animated Series and Freakazoid. He also WAS NOT a Wrestling fan and used his power as the Ceo of Turner Networks to kill WCW and sell it to Vince McMahon in 2001 for only $2 Million.
Now what does the XBOX have to do with Pro Wrestling? Well see the point I'm making her is that it just took one high level executive who did not like Pro Wrestling to kill World Championship Wrestling. In the late 90s Wrestling was a scapegoat for alot of violence much like gaming is now. Now with shake ups at microsoft and Steve Balmer retiring soon
the XBOX Brand could suffer the same fate WCW did. We already have the stupid and questionable choices part. So who's to say that the next most powerful person in the Microsoft empire is somebody that just does not like video games and as such, will Kill the XBOX Brand.
That will ultimately be in my estimation the death of the XBOX Brand, an executive who just flat out DOES NOT LIKE VIDEO GAMES. The Fate of Microsoft IPs...I can't predict what Halo will end up on. But I am pretty sure the Death of the XBOX will not be due to poor sales, just an executive with his head up his ass.
I debate back and fourth as to which series is my Favorite, Sonic or Mega man, But considering how much I write about Sonic....I think Mega Man wins out.
Ever since my grandmother bought me a Nintendo power that had Mega Man 2 winning all kinds of awards and then buying me the game at of all places a hardware store I've been a Mega Man fan and a big part of that was the music. So here it is my 5 all time favorite Mega Man songs picking my top 5 was easy but there are SO MANY remixes, arrangements and other such things that, I'll crash your browser with all the videos if I linked to them.
[b]From the X Series
Sting Chameleon's theme is my favorite X1 tune. Probably my favorite Song in the entire X Series. I'm using the Maverick Hunter X remix here because of the two official versions I prefer it. It's got a sneaky nature to it like a Chameleon should have. The SNES Version fits the stage as the stage it self is balls to the wall blowing shit up and that battle for the Armor capsule, I can't imagine fighting that robot to any other theme. There are also several kick ass Metal arrangements worth checking out. So there you got Sting Chameleon the next one is the 2nd and last listed song from the X series.
What better song to get you pumped up for X's final SNES Battle, the only downside to is it doesn't play for very long before you have to play as Zero and Rescue X. Zero's theme isn't quite as Pumping as this is and kind of kills the flow. Still a Great theme that Capcom Ruined in the X3 arrangement on Saturn/PSX/ X collection.
From the Classic Series
Adding Solar Man means I had to bump Gyro Man's stage from this list. No doubt that Mega Man 9 and 10 had some amazing tunes. Sticking very close to the Mega Man 2 style. as opposed to the distinct style used in 3-6. Solar Man wins out of MANY great songs becuase like the X3 intro stage this one keeps you pumped up through out what is a grueling vertical stage and really brings the ROCK out of ROCKMAN. You can't arrange this song any other way or it would sound weird, all remixes MUST have Guitar.
Don't ask why Airman just don't. As a Kid Wood Man and Flash Man's stage themes were my favorites but there's something funky and upbeat about Air Man's theme that as an Adult makes it a favorite. Air Man's Stage isn't THAT HARD (then again 20+ years of Memorization might cloud that judgement) So it's a nice relaxing theme Generally I tackle Air Man first when I do a Mega Man 2 playthrough so I get Item 2 for Heat Man's Stage and it's always a wonderful way to begin a Mega Man 2 Play Through.
YEP Snake Man the do do do do do do do under the medley and just the way the song draws it self out is the perfect example of the Unique Mega Man 3 sound. Mega Man 3 was vastly different from 1 and 2. You had the slide, you had a new intro that played after selecting a boss. Rush was there, you could have E tanks coming out your ass (and my boss order differs significantly depending on if I use the A9 password at first or not) Mega Man 3 was just...different but also the same and it was epically long too thanks to the Doc Robot stages (Which I wish had their own themes) So of all those changes and the different musical style compared to 1 and 2 I think Snake Man's theme is the best example of that. It doesn't really sound like the theme a snake should have but listen close enough and you'll hear a little tinge of snake charmer in the chiptune.
So there you go my 5 favorite Mega man themes....and there are SO MANY MORE I love too that will have to wait another day. Really Mega Man has great design most of the time in it's games...but lets face it when they are hard, THEY ARE HARD so you need good music to keep playing. Do you think Mega Man would have lasted all this time if the series had shitty music? I THINK NOT
On Thursday I will attain the rank of Level 32 normal Human being in the RPG Called Life.
Yeah well it sounded cool in my head. So Yeah my Birthday is coming up I will use the opertunity to lavishly spend my $200 Amazon Gift card on Video games and Anime. FINALLY getting a Copy of Mega Man 8 on Saturn. Getting Ridge Racer 7 cuz it's awesome, Sengoku Basara 3 and the HD Collection and then topping those off with the Discotek media release of the 1971 Lupin the 3rd tv series. Then I'm using the Remaining $220 from Connection to buy more anime goodies including a show I just discovered existed last night.
I find out last night that there's a new 13 episode Lupin the 3rd show starring Fujiko Mine. The show being called Lupin the 3rd The Woman Called Fujiko Mine and it's really unique the opening credits are weird it's like Cowboy Bebop meets Elfin Lied. But then the show goes into full swing and it's really interesting. Here we don't have nudity for the sake of fan service but rather this woman who knows she's hot and uses to get what she wants. The first episode I saw was really good and a nice change of pace from most anime that contain nudity. But the most interesting part? I noticed that a certian character in Dragon's Crown. Bares more than a Striking resemblance to Miss Mine here take a look:
I don't think that's a coincidence. Kudos to Vanilliaware for getting a little Lupin in our Dragon's Crown.
But yeah The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. if you like boobs, and you like Lupin check it out OH and the Music Director is Shinchrio Wantanabe. Nice to see him work on the show that clearly inspired Cowboy Bebop.
Anywho I'll close This blog with this epicness a song from 1999 I had no idea existed until yesterday from Del the Funkee Homosapian.
Until then I'll be playing Dragon's Crown and waiting for Duck Tales to show up on PSn.
Title, says it it all. Blog over. But this is a blog and I should probably explain why I don't think Capcom is burying Mega Man. If you want to see what Mega Man is reduced to without Keiji inafune I think this is all you need to see.
You know what though I actually don't hate X7. I LOTHE X6 also made without input from inafune. I don't think Inafune had much to do with X5 either. Basically the last half of the X Series is kind of a mess Poor design choices and just well weird shit like effeminate robots saying cryptic things about going maverick. coughluminecough. X5 is a game people seem to love. But X6 until the end eeeeeeeeeeeeeh most people hate them. X6 was a mess and to date the only video game to give me a migraine so bad I thought I was having a Stroke. X7 again I don't hate X7 but why do you have to wait until half way through the game before you can play as X? WAY WAY WAY too much backtracking in x7 and AXL is just annoying as fuck. X8 Was a step in the right direction
but the story was getting into some weird Evangelion shit and the stage designs were in consistent and in some cases lazy. Suffice to say I think had X continued beyond X5 with Inafune Input they'd have panned out differently.
My theory is that without Keiji Inafune Capcom doesn't really know what direction to take Mega Man in. Do they give it to way forward? A western team, risk Classic Mega Man going all X7? Sometimes to save something we love we gotta lock it up for a bit. Capcom could rush out a half assed Mega Man 11 (which some think is Mega Man unlimited, Unlmited may not be Mega Man 11 but it sure is halfassed) But I think Capcom needs time to make sure their flagship not Street Fighter not Resident Evil is in the right hands.
Then again they don't seem to worry about half assed Resident Evils now do they? Seeing as that series creator hasn't been at Capcom for awhile.
I dunno just something to consider next time we bash Capcom for a Lack of Mega Man games.
NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA 2 A 4 year old PS3 game so ahead of it's time it could have been a Pre Policy change XBOX ONE GAME. See for you to play this game, You have to be logged into PSN and have the game installed on PS3. Now the newer Vita version WILL work off line plus unlike the PS3 version all the bloody violence is left in.
Strange 4 years ago there was no uproar over Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 being Always online or having a forced install. Granted it was 1 game and a port of a then year old 360 game but still nobody complained trust me I looked there was maybe a mention of it but no outrage at all. Now as far as I know this is just one game. I have no idea if any other PS3 games do this and I'm trying to find out so I can avoid those games.
The game does look smoother than Ninja Gaiden 2 and adds levels but it's at the cost of being able to play it in 10 years when you're pining for a PS3 update to a 360 game. I ain't no hypocrite I'm either returning the game or using it for trade towards a better more consumer friendly game.
360 version is better anyway, it has gore, faster load times and it's HARD. PS3 version only looks better than the 360 version.
But then there are fanboys who be like BUT AYANE'S TITS
I'm getting alot of shit from blind fanboys about my opinion that Mega Man Unlimited is pure garbage. That Megaphilx did not take into account the principals of Mega Man level design when creating this shitfest. I have a few problems with Mega Man Unlimited the music is TERRIBLE. Ranbow Man's stage grates me like nails on a chalk board. The Level design is just atrocious. again using Rainbow man as an example rather than give you a slow build, it throws shit at you right away. Deaths in that stage never feel like skill, they feel like you got lucky. BAD LEVEL DESIGN. Trintro man, jump from ladder to ladder... that's some Final level shit not in a stage you should theoretically beable to clear buster only. OH and Yoko Man's stage...that gigantic sack of shit. Somebody played Astro man's stage in Mega Man 8 and was like...this is too easy lets make a hard version. Now you might think "Shitfest" and "Sack of shit" is me being too rough on Mega man Unlmited, but I'm sorry, that's what came out of my mouth when I was playing it.
The Developers did not look at Mega Man games to see what makes them so great.
I won't link to the video but Egorapter explained it beautifully. Mega Man Levels when well designed are a slow build. They teach you as you go through them. I'm going to use as an example of this slow build teaching Hornet Man's stage from Mega Man 9 a stage that took me DAYS to get through.
I like this example for two things, the player dies alot and you see the mistakes you can make but you also see how it's the player's fault as there's a slow build. Note the platforms you shoot are at the beginning of the stage with no consequence it's there to show you that yes this will be later in the stage learn what it does now. Another example of this is in Tornado Man's Stage. A great example is Quick Man's Stage it does a slow build with the beams so you know what to expect. Going back into Hornet Man's stage see the Cannons? The first one shows you what they do and gives you a nice little treat for learning So when you encounter the others you know what to do. See GENIUS!
Mega Man Fan games never do this nobody seems to get that Mega Man Games are hard and should be hard, but not unfair hard. Mega Man 9 is more than fair with it's difficulty and while you can Mega Buster only the whole game it's in your best interest to use the weapons they give you. Mega Man 2 is like that as well as there are situations in the stages where use of a weapons is beneficial and not just metal balding through the whole game.
So if you're a Mega Man fan and you want to make a Mega Man game to tide us over while we wait for Capcom to figure out what to do with Mega Man without inafune (can you blame them X6-X8 were made without Inafune and they SUCKED...well ok I don't mind X7 but I'm in a minority) remember what I taught you here. It's not about clever weapons or bosses. It's about a slow build in difficulty subliminally preparing players for what's ahead.
Also your fangame should ONLY use this boss intro music:
I hope I taught you alittle something about Mega Man tonight. There are other elements to what makes a good Mega Man Game. Good Music, good Weapons (which is one of the reasons I hate 4) and interesting bosses. But I'll get into that some other time when I talk about my least favorite Mega Man games. Including the X Series games.
