Good job...I thought I was lucky enough to have chosen Fawkes over the other brotherhood chick as my buddy when I got to the ending, only to find that I couldn't actually use him.
I totally agree with you about the ending. Fawkes is immune to radiation and I tried everything to see if I could send him in my place.
I also felt the same about Fawkes walking around with you into the Citadel. I was sort of expecting to be stopped. I even paused for a second at the front gates to see if they'd fire at him. They didn't.
2 minds, sir. 2 minds.

I honestly don't think there is any criticism warranted here, the ending got to me as well, and this game by far is my GOTY.
I was deeply disappointed by the ending, ALL throughout the game, your actions do determine what quests/items(special ones also), clothes etc. you get, heck you can even destroy a town with a atomic bomb and change the the Fallout world greatly.
But, it counts for nothing at the end because there is only ONE way to become a 'true' hero, like you mentioned.
The sidekick thing did not bother me so much, in fact I thought it was hilarious walking round people who despise Super mutants, with one as my sidekick, many laughs were had.
I loved this game, and love it even more now, but sadly, there are flaws, not enough to warrant dissatisfaction overall, but enough to make you feel cheated.
Excellent post!! THIS is a prime example of doing your first blog right, welcome to the good old 'toid!! Hope you have a great day!! :)

Playing the previous games in the series would have totally lowered your expectations for the ending. I know they did for me!
Welcome to DToid. How 'bout a post introducing yourself and telling us what kind of gamer you are.
I was actually so scared to bring Fawkes with me to the citadel that I just left him outside of Megaton because I didn't want him to get shot at.

First of all, nice read.
I only have one little complaint and it is that Fawkes isn't immune to radiation, just way more resistant to it than most people. I think the radiation was so high in there that it would kill any living creature, even him (I know it says the radiation levels are only about 20 per second in there, and that's a plot hole).
I was a bit surprised/confused by the ending as well, but I didn't hate it. Your father abandoned project purity and thus sacrificed humanity for you when you were born, and in order to make things right you had to sacrifice yourself for humanity. There is some poetic beauty there.
There are indeed some faults in this game (just like virtually every other game), but it's still my retail GOTY and one of the best experiences I've had with a video game.

Worst part of the ending is the narrative when you send the girl in.
A coward? Really? Despite the fact that YOU where responsible for the creation of the damn thing, no you had to die to be a hero, fucking lame.

Thank you everyone for your comments, I like reading all your opinions and I am encouraged to write something again! I will get around to writing an introductory post on the forums soon.
