About Me
After a long and unnoticeable time away from Destructoid, I have returned to blog once again. Now, to lay down the law.

This is my blog. I don't care if you agree with it or not. It's not for your benefit. It's for mine. It's to express my ideas through a medium so they don't bottle up and result in me climbing a clock tower with some form of weaponry and begin hailing bullets down to the unsuspecting civilians below.

Now, down to the nitty gritty. Some of my earliest gaming memories are on the Sega, playing Sonic the Hedgehog and complaining when I got to the water level which required you to collect air bubbles to survive. I then got violently shoved into the world of Playstation and Nintendo64. I’ve always stood by the philosophy that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) is my mother, and either Crash Team Racing (PS1) or Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (PS1) is my father. I could never quite tell. Firstly, Ocarina of Time is undoubtedly, in my mind, the greatest game that has ever spawned from the hands of man. It kept me warm on cold nights, taught me almost everything I know, and still keeps an eye on me today. It is my mother. Secondly, Crash Team Racing and The Phantom Menace were both amazing games that I played for hours non-stop, and I’m not really sure which contributed more into creating me. One of them is my father, but it remains a mystery. I had some good times with Pokemon Red on my Gameboy before and around this time, which entertained me for years. I moved onto PS2 (the days of GTA: San Andreas were truly amazing), Xbox, and then to Xbox360 which I enjoyed some good years on, and then I finally became primarily a PC gamer. I’ve got nothing against any console or platform, PC just works better for me.

Honestly though, I'll be using this blog as my "must try and write about something everyday so I don't become rusty" thing. I write for a gaming website that will be launching soon, and it's almost necessary to have a personal blog in which you can keep up your writing skillz, so bare with me while I ramble.

Cheers.

Playing on Easy is Easy. Become a gaming master today!

Now dont get me wrong, I'm not someone who always plays games on easy. Although I'm a casual gamer, I normally play on medium to high difficulty. However I'm sure we all know someone who constantly plays the same campaign time after time, with the difficulty as low as it can go, or with enemy bots as dumb as a doorknob. Until today, I would usually give them a piece of my mind and try to convince them to leave their comfort bubble known as 'easy'. But after a short investigation into the matter, I think I see where they are coming from.

Why do we play games? To eventually be the strongest, the fastest, the best, and to have fun. Now let's start to break it down. Everyone wants to feel like an unstoppable beast/hero/manbearpig when playing, right? You wanna charge through all of your enemies at lightning speeds, and demolish all in your way... because it's fun. I think you see where I'm going with this. When people start on easy, they are instantly shot into a world of false reality, and they believe they are the greatest thing since videogame porn. From the very beginning, they can take down anyone and feel like a god, without even having to train for it. Let's take this a little deeper, shall we?

When playing something like an MMORPG, you level, and therefore can fight higher level monsters. Most of the time, people are going into territory with monsters they can just defeat, and half of their health is lost in a single battle. Every now and then however, you'll see some level 20 in a level 10 area. Don't know what they are doing there? You do now. Because it's easy! They can tear through mobs of those monsters without a scratch on them! If they are deluded and nerdy enough, they can feel like king of the world. They wouldn't do it because it's boring for them, now would they? They obviously think it's fun. And that's what we're all out to do, yeah?

Now let's have another look at the hardcore difficulty players. If you can fly through games on insane mode and you're having fun, great! But I'm also certain that there has been one point in our videogaming careers where that last death just didn't sit right with you, and some blood began to boil, or your tv got a controller imprinted on the screen. If you're not having fun, bump it down a notch! It's ok! Nothing bad will happen. Infact, you'll find yourself harder, better, faster and stronger than ever before! And most importantly you'll be enjoying yourself, which is the primary goal of games, isn't it?

To sum up, I'm not saying play all games on easy. I sure don't. But if you know someone who does, take into consideration what i've written here. Perhapse they were bullied as a child, and need to create a Barbarian Warrior and kill level 1 bears to deal with it. Or maybe they just wanna go crazy, rape and pillage, and most importantly; have a bit of fun.

The prinny game for the PSP is probably one of the only ways to play that game without losing your sanity or breaking your PSP.

I NEVER play anything on easy, except when I'm just going for trophies/stupid unlocking runs that I want to get over with. Games should be challenging, and Easy mode spoils most of the enjoyment. You don't need to "learn" the game and can just strut around and do whatever you like - like in Metal Gear Solid games you can just walk 3 feet from guards and they don't see you. I don't like it, it's not even fun just to blow through all the enemies, because you know they're not even trying.

I don't think I play to "be the best" in single player games. I just wanna have fun and see the ending. Multiplayer games are another story, you want to be the best within a community, so it's a different kind of reaction.

In most games, Normal is usually just enough to challenge me on the first playthrough. I attempt the "Hardest" modes with games I really like, and it's usually a blast (Resi 4 Pro Mode is awesome, God of War is so much better on the harder levels).

I play games on various difficulties, if I'm not having fun on a difficultly, I'll change it up.

Games are about fun, and sometimes just owning everything is fun. I recently went back to mess around with Crackdown, I set that on the easier difficulty and just enjoy running around with the rocket launcher and killing stupid stupid AI.

I know it's not because I'm amazing at the game, but that doesn't take away from my enjoyment.

Different difficulties offer different game experiences, I beat Call of Duty 4 on Veteran, but that's totally different just going back and just messing around on easy. If you never try the easiest difficulty, you might just miss out on some big dumb stupid fun.

Of course if you play on easy and think you're a god because you rule easy mode... Well that's just stupid...
