I don't think you are reading into anything. I think that's exactly what they were going for. Advertising based on any stereotype is just a bad idea in general.
It's even sports too, so it's a double whammy of "girls don't play games" and "girls don't get sports"
I agree with you 95%....
On the other hand it could be a "I let you win" that everyone says when really they didn't....
But that can't be conveyed in one still picture so, yeah, I'm 100% with you now. Microsoft are sexist.
You're talking about it. So for Microsoft it's a succes.
Not always.
I work in advertising, so I know that the old "Any publicity is good publicity" is BS that's only said when something goes to shit.
Pretty silly advert, as Techophile says stereotyping ads are usually bad unless they go against it.
It's also wrong. I never let my gf win. EVER! SHE MUST LOSE! Maybe that's why I don't own a 360.
Good observation but I bet most of the people looking at it wont even bat an eye. That ad is targeting the 16 to 25 crowd, that youthful bohemian demographic that Microsoft thinks would find it humorous and appealing.
Well, if you work in advertising you should know better than post a stupid advert in your blog.
You're reading this advertisement wrong.
Microsoft lent this as a casual ad. It's a softer way of saying, "Share Your Xbox 360 so these other people can buy these games you sick fuck."
Why is she playing with the keyboard addon to her controller? Is she texting her BFF Jill? No, girls don't own 360s
You make me SICK microsoft
There's nothing wrong with steryotypical advertisements, see:
Now all I want is a pancake, that cute little black lady drew me in!
Heretic, don't you go to school?
Anyway, its "i'm letting her win" as in, she's kicking my ass. If you take 2 seconds to look at it, you'll see she's rubbing it in, and he's faking a smile. I think they could've went with a better picture, making the dude look a bit more frustrated. But the idea still works.
You guys really get up in arms about the stupidest shit.
I agree with Free Touch and Heretic.
It's like the displays stores put up that say "games for girls"...pretty sure Gamestop is guilty of this. Not a big deal in my book, but it is a little condescending. I'd probably care more if I had a vagina.
That said, when my wife and I were dating, I'd occasionally let her win a few rounds of Mario Kart, because when I'd win, she'd get totally pissed off. It got to the point where I refused to play it with her anymore.
You are reading too much.
Also, most publicist creatives suck so there is the reason for the bad advertising photo.
Wow really? Wtf.
It's clearly not based in reality anyway. That girl is way too attractive for those trolls.
But girls suck at games, it's an astronomical fact.
GODDAMN YOU RONBURGUNDY2010!!!
Now all i can think about is the damned foodstuff that is delicious pancakes!
