A Blast From The Past - Daikatana Preview From 1999
PeZ | 1:57 AM on 08.28.2008 11 comments

Rather randomly I stumbled upon this little gem on youtube:

Awesome. It kind of makes me feel sad that Daikatana was such a failure. I remember all the previews from PC Format magazine that a friend of mine used to buy. And I remember there being the infamous Bitch ad in the same issue as Half-Life's review -- talk about irony there. Oh and check out the camera work on the Stevie clip.

Actually, I've never played Daikatana more than the first level of the demo, I think. Any dtoiders up for a group replay/blog thing (once I get my damn PC running again, that is)?

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

It reminds me of Too Human, actually, in that it could have been great if it had been delivered earlier. As it was, Daikatana got owned by the earlier release of Half Life 2 and Unreal.

Of course, Too Human needs to have been released in the PS2 era at the very latest to be interesting (before Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance) but now it's just...yeah, it...does stuff.

You mean the original Half-Life, not 2 :)

Stevie Case posed for Playboy you know? You can find her pics if you look around for them. :P

I know :P Ah, the escapades of young John Romero. The camera glance is still funny though.

Man, I wonder if Romero would watch this now that he would facepalm at this entire video? Advanced AI? Deep story? DEPTH? That certainly doesn't sound right... does it?

That's what you get when you let a girl you're sleeping with design levels. The concept was great, but the technology just wasn't there back then to support it.

I remember PC gaming had the audacity to include Stevie in the "Future Gods of Gaming" issue.

Wow, there's a blast from the past. Anyone play Anchorax? (did I spell the title right?) That was meant to be decent. Better that Daikatana anyway?

Gotta love the random "pan down to bewbs" shot. My guess is that they got bored by what Ms. Case was saying and needed to regain the viewers attention.

Its almost to the point of self parody with that narrator.

I think the whole "advanced AI" bit is hilarious by today's standards, because it consisted almost entirely of "stop, move, and attack" command prompts.
