My Friend Chris vs. SNK Playmore Part 2: Fanboy Barrage!
Paul Soth | 2:48 AM on 05.09.2008 6 comments

Okay kids, here's the story so far:

1. My friend Gil buys Card Fighters DS at a local Best Buy.
2. Ten hours of gameplay in, he hits the game-killing glitch.
3. Gil returns the game to Best Buy and receives a replacement.
4. Replacement game glitches as well in the same spot as before.
5. Figuring that the whole shipment was bad, Gil attempts to contact SNK Playmore's sales department as described in the manual's warranty section.
6. Two weeks pass with no response.
7. Gil sends another e-mail.
8. Two more weeks pass without a response.
9. Gil calls the customer service line during business hours. Gets a machine, leaves a message and his contact information.
10. Another week passes, no response.
11. Gil calls again, but this time listens to the list of extensions, decides to call all of them in a perhaps vain attempt to get someone at SNK to listen to his problem. Eventually he gets what he needs.
12. However in the meantime, Gil leaves a message on the machine of SNK Playmore USA president Ben Herman, explaining his frustration on trying to get some sort of response over the last two months noting his intention of making himself a "big of a pain in the ass as possible" until someone would at least give him some sort of acknowledgment.
13. Ben Herman responds with a message of his own and utters the unfortunate phrase: "We don't pride ourselves in customer service."
14. Another friend of Gil, an unnamed industry insider, suggests that he send the story to Kotaku.
15. Kotaku runs it. The rest of the net slowly picks up on it as well.

And that's where we left off. However, in that time a message board run and populated by SNK fanatics takes deep offense at the story. In other words, cry havoc and unleash the fanboys of war!:

And 25 posts in, someone gets the bright idea of going over to Gil's form to start a fight there:

Man, nobody wins in a situation like this, do they? Logic be dammed, it seems.

Its not worth it, that game is really terrible, the original for the Neo Geo pocket was the shit though.

I agree with covah, I for one own it. It is ridiculously repetitive, easy and riddled with mistranslations and glitches.

Also, lack of Wi-fi support FTL.

Albeit "We don't pride ourselves in customer service." is pretty dick.

it really isn't worth it. just spend that 14 bucks on something better. Seriously.

I know your friend's trying to prove a point, but I think at thisp point, it's kinda like...whatever.

"We don't pride ourselves in customer service."

Fucking awesome. At least he admits it

Wow, the SNK fanboys that jumped on his forum in order to defend their beloved company sure were something. The blind devotion at play there was rather frightening. @_@
