My Friend Chris Reviews SFIV
Paul Soth | 6:12 AM on 02.23.2009 1 comments

Chris "Gilgamesh" Bradshaw is someone I've brought up here before. A long-time Street Fighter fan, he has owned and operated the Chun-Li fansite Kikouken.Com for nearly eight years and operated similar pages on various other hosts before that. The last time I mentioned him on this blog was due to less then ideal circumstances in dealing with former SNK Playmore USA president Ben Herman. This time, the occasion is much more positive as he examines the much awaited Street Fighter IV.

I'll allow you to visit the review yourself, rather then post it here. Nothing wrong with letting people visit his site anyway. But as someone who's seen the bad and good that Capcom has done in the last twenty years, he is thrilled to see such a strong effort after so many disappointments. Here's some quotes:

"... There was nothing to fill that enormous void in the holes of our fighting souls. We have tried to fill it with games like Tekken, Soul Calibur, KOF, and Guilty Gear, but we found ourselves in the gaming equivalent of getting drunk and having empty sex with a reasonably attractive chick because her hotter sister was no longer available."

"When Street Fighter IV was first announced, fans were cautious because we all remembered how disappointed we were when Capcom took all of their iconic, genre-defining characters... and abandoned them at a fire station in the middle of a cold winter's night and introduced a bizarre 50/50 mix of badass fighters and retarded mutants that looked like Darkstalkers rejects and dared to call it Street Fighter III."

"All in all, though, the little things that annoy me about Street Fighter IV are greatly overshadowed by just how many things Capcom did right. If the current reception is any indication, Capcom appears to have their biggest hit in years on their hands, and all it took was a simple thing like listening to what the fans wanted. Who'da thunk?"

Go give it a look.

Good review. I remember one of the many capcom spinoffs (evolution I think), that I enjoyed playiong, but noticed the cheap cost looking sprites. Sakura was still the best though. Do you know if that lolita girl was in the original SF3? If so, why was she removed?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
