Seriously this is most likely the best week ever for PSOne classics in Japan.
First off the two minor games:
- Astronoka:
Never heard of it, but it's supposedly a simulation game, where you are playing a robot with the task to grow vegetables on a space colony.
- Fighters' Impact:
Seems to be a simple 3D beat'em up. Never heard or played this one either.
But now comes the good stuff:
- RAYSTORM:
One of my favorite shooters for the PS1. I have played through this game dozens and dozens of times.
- Einhander:
Yes, you heard right. It's effing Einhander. Everybody loves Einhander. It's a fantastic game and everybody who haven't played it yet, should give it a go.
- Rakugaki Showtime:

This may not ring a bell with too many people, but this one is made by Treasure. It's a 3D beat'em up, where you can run around freely and have to beat up your opponents. All characters are actually pieces of paper with crayon drawings on them, making for a rather special presentation. If you had the chance to play this game though, you will notice two things. First, graphics, sound and gameplay is kinda really bad. Second, it is still great fun because of it's craziness. The retail copy of the PS1 game goes for crazy prices, because the game is uncommon and a cult classic. So seeing this go for 600Yen instead of around $100 is crazy.

Yes, Xenogears! The good news: Xenogears is on the Japanese PSN. The bad news: There is no news on when or if it is coming anytime to the US PSN. Xenogears is one of my favorite RPGs and it's complex and at times perplexing story line was way ahead of it's time. Too bad the Xenosaga franchise could keep up with it's legacy.
Square Enix said, that they will release 12 PSOne classics in the next month. What other 8 games will come? Releasing FF7 as a PSOne classic together with the BluRay of Advent Children is a possibility perhaps?
The Japanese store is full of win. Einhänder, Raystorm and the goodies from earlier store updates like Metal Slug and Metal Gear Solid make me wish I had a Japanese Credit Card.
For SCEA to -not- get Einhander and Xenogears on the PSN that would mean that they are committing so much epic fail.
We already have english translations for those games when they were released for the PS1. SCEA and SE need to get those files converted for PSN distribution for the Europe and American folks.

Y'know, I just realized that Xenogears is an incredibly romantic RPG- I can't actually think of any other games where the main characters fall in love during the storyline.
Xenogears Holy shit!!! Fuck the Japanese and their amazing PSN store. I wish they would do a PS3 remake of Xenogears and fix the crappy second half when they narrate while sitting on those chairs
xenogears and xenosaga were 2 different games made by 2 different publishers. and final fantasy games on ps1 are near 2gigs, do we really want them that much? have we not played final fantasy 7,8.9 that we need these again. i personally would love tactics and the saga series.
Qraze, we've got Tactics on PSP that's good enough for me. Also 2 gigs isn't that much on a 250 hard drive. I don't care because I own them but still. I do think everybody will have to change their drives anyway. MGS is a 4 gig install and there are a lot more games like that.
