MGS4 Database available in Japan
ParaParaKing | 4:34 AM on 06.19.2008 11 comments

If you go to the Japanese PlayStationStore, you can already download the MGS4 Database and it is multilanguage. The download size is 77MB.

If you worry about spoilers, be assured, that all spoilers are blacked out without a clear save file. But since this is the Japanese version you won't be able to unlock those blacked out infos without a Japanese copy of MGS4 (since it saves in a different spot) or a downloaded save from gamefaqs.

So what is in the database?

From the main menu, you can choose from Encyclopedia, Timeline and Relationship Chart.

The Encyclopedia features 573 (Yay, Konami number!) items with the subcategories: People, Organizations, Science, Miitary, Historic Events, Locations and Other. Each item has one to six pages of text for you to read and of course you can also jump from one item to the next if a word in there is unfamiliar to you.

Timeline gives you a quick overview of all the events taking place reaching from 1773 to 2014.

Realation Chart features several charts actually reaching from the birth of The Boss (not be confused with Big Boss) until the events of MGS4.

All in all it's free and kind of nice to have. I wonder, if you unlock something for reading everything that is in the Encyclopedia (since it saves your progress for that) in the main game.

Edit: Screw you SCEE for not releasing it on the European PSN this week.

I saw you playing this on PSN. I was wondering what the hell this was. Thanks for the info. I bet this is going to be released on the EU and US store as well. Maybe even tonight.

@TAKESHI: It will hit the US store today and I will be mad, if Europe has to wait for this, since it's already multi language and ready to go.

Cool, very cool, but why on earth does the timeline stretch all the way back to 1773?!?! I know Kojima likes detail, but that's quite frankly ridiculous, oh and I second TAKESHI, I was scratchin ma head when I saw this underneath your name, I thought how on earth did you get your hands on it, now I know :) Juess it is really time to set up that japanses account, any other stuff europeans can get there hands on that is'nt available on the EU PSN store PARA?
