Elefunk impressions

Yesterday I had the chance to check out Elefunk for the PSN, because my brother got a review code from Sony.

In Elefunk your goal is to help elephants cross a gap by building bridges, that can support their weight. There is also some story told through pictures in the intro, but it doesn't really have much to do with the game itself.

The game starts out simple with a tutorial level, but that can hardly be called tutorial since it only teaches you the controls. This actually is one of the problems of the game, since it doesn't teach you how to play efficiently. The second level is already so much more complex than the first one, that it's a bit frustrating.

The bridge building is actually very simple. The main road is already built out and your job is only to support it either from below or from above. Once you get the hang of the basics, it's actually rather easy to build sturdy bridges.

Same as Lemmings it is great fun to test out a bridge only to see it collapse under the weight of the elephants and see them fall to their doom.

At the end of world 1 I encountered a bonus stage, where you tried to land an elephant with a rocket backpack on a plattform after launching it from a ramp. It also used the sixaxis tilt sensor and wild controller shaking. The gameplay wasn't anything special, but it had a special kind of charm seeing that elephant flying through the air.

All in all I enjoyed my time with Elefunk. If you like puzzle games and/or elephants, you should check this one out once it hits the PlayStation store in the near future.
