3DS Gameplay Video (Shortblog)
PappaDukes | 2:54 PM on 03.25.2010 24 comments

I did some searching around the c-blogs and didn't see this subject posted anywhere, but a friend of mine sent me a link to the below video showing footage of how the 3DS gameplay *should* work. Not sure how legit this is, but hell, it looked awesome to me!

The magic doesn't happen until about 0:50 in.

So, what do you all think?

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Pretty neat I have to say, but I have a problem with having to tilt the screen. My biggest gripe with the iPhone is that with some games, like say, any number of Labyrinth clones requires you to tilt the entire thing to move the ball. Problem is, the iPhone has a pretty shiny screen, and trying to get absolute clarity means you have to move your head too, which isn't exactly possible. Sure, you can hold it directly below you and look, but that's just silly.

Regardless, I really would like to see how they're going to do this 3D thing. If it has a forward-facing camera or something, it could probably do head-tracking, though in what capacity I'm not sure. I'll wait for news regardless. =P

@blehmeng - I have to stray out of the seamy underbelly of the forums every once in a while to keep my grip on reality.

I like that! Pretty much how I'd imagined it would work.

I just don't think putting corners in the edges makes sense, it makes it look like there's a box behind the screens. Then again these are probably early made and will be improved and what not.

Do you have to hold it sideways for the 3D, or was that just the game? Anyway, I hope it's real.

@Naim - Thanks for the link.

Now, I know this game is a DSiWare game, however, I think this gives a pretty good representation of how Nintendo plans on pulling off this whole concept of 3D gaming without the 3D glasses.

I can't honestly think of any other way this could be implemented.

It's probably going to use something called a parallax barrier LCD screen, which is explained here.

The Japanese DSiWare game uses another method called "Head Tracking" which utilizes the built in camera to create the depth you see. There are several ways that 3D can be done, but I'm seeing this DSi video being pointed at way to much as the example of how it WILL be, and people need to stop jumping to conclusions.

I can only see this effecting people who play those "hidden object" games.

Somewhere a shovelware publisher is reading your comment and sweating in excitement.

Thus far my impression of the 3DS and the speculation surrounding it is "neat." I can't see any real reason to be excited yet. There's not tremendous possibilities opening up or anything.

This could be a neat thing, a mix of this head tracking business and some above the plain type stuff.

Yeah, I remember them showing this game off. If EVERY 3DS game is like this, then holy shit, day one purchase for me.
