Nintendo’s Online Situation
PaperBowser0 | 11:50 AM on 08.08.2008 8 comments

Alright, I’ll be the first to say that Nintendo is my favorite handheld and console maker out of them, Sony, and Microsoft. But that’s not to say the Microsoft isn’t in a really close second. With Nintendo and SOME third parties putting out some really cool and innovative games, you’d think that Nintendo would have an online structure like that of Microsoft. Microsoft has already shown us about they’re motion controller, and how they’re going to Mii-like avatars. They’re also re-designing the 360’s dashboard to look more like the Wii. So pretty much….they’re taking a lot of ideas from Nintendo huh? Well, if the 360 can do that, why can’t Nintendo take some of the ideas behind the 360’s online service, and implement that into they’re handhelds and consoles? I wouldn’t be bad if they changed some of the stuff, and made it “Nintendo like”. But by the next-gen consoles, Nintendo is still going to be behind, it will probably have some of the things that the 360 has, but it will still be lacking. Come ON Nintendo! It can’t be that hard to do at least some kind of thing such as an online infrastructure for your consoles. Well, what do you guys think?

What Microsoft motion controller?

Yeah, haven't you heard about it?

The rumoured one that never surfaced and is still unconfirmed?

Nope, never heard of it.

If anything, it looks more like the PS3.

Also, the Wii does not have the memory available for an overhead always-on internet solution like the 360 and PS3 do. Both those consoles reserved certain amounts of memory developers could not use in order to have always-on internet communication. Nintendo didn't do that, so they have no room for that kind of service.

Doesn't WiiConnect24 have the always on the internet thing?

And if anything, it's more like a Giant Zune Interface.

@Daxelman

I think he's talking about an overhead thing, like the Dashboard on the 360 and the XMB on the PS3. The Wii has the Home Menu, but it's true, there probably isn't enough memory.

However, I'm not bugged by the Wii's online situation anymore. The Wii wasn't meant for online play --- That's what I have a PS3 for. Next generation, if the new Wii has online, then that's fine, but I really don't care anymore about right now.

 about me

Well, I'm just your normal 16 year kid that's in high school, and happens to be a webmaster and blogger. I blog about everything that I like. I have a personal blog, gaming blogs, and some other different technology blogs. I make websites for people as a freelance job, to help make money for my future college entrance, but until then, I'll just do it freelance, and not as a complete 24/7 job.

I'm not going to go into detail about all of my blogs, except that you can find links to all of them on SM290.com.

Well, I guess I'll talk about my interests. Well, I like skateboarding, and am an amateur snowboarder, and like to hang out with friends whenever I get the chance to. I own a Nintendo DS, a GameCube, a Wii, NES, SNES, N64, GBA, PS2, and PS1. I love RPG's and platformers, and am a huge Nintendo fan (hence the Nintendo site that I run).

Currently playing:

DS:
Final Fantasy IV
Blue Dragon Plus

Wii:
