An interesting thought to use personality tests - it would be interesting if the game personality test at the beginning formed a basis for how a game might handle mission selection, etc.
Being in the Human Resources field for many years prior to retiring, I had the opportunity to give and take some of these tests... and was always surprised at how accurate they were. I did the Meyers-Briggs, Keirsey, and NEO tests and while I don't advocate their use in the HR field, they were certainly quite interesting.
It would likely tailor the game very much to a person's individual traits... though the thing with gaming is that people often play against their true personality. I'd definitely more comfortable with following a "good" path - though there is the odd occasion when I do the "evil" thing just for the experience of doing something I'm actually uncomfortable with.
While I think that a game that was customized to our personality traits as indicated by some of the existing personality tests commonly used might be interesting, I do think that gaming is a wonderful time for us to experiment with things we normally wouldn't do in real life... but essentially the choice should remain with the gamer.
I also don't like the concept of a psych evaluation at the end of the game simply because I don't think it does reflect a person's true personality... as noted, when we play games we often choose to go against our true type.
You also bring up an interesting point that people can actually learn a lot about themselves by observing the choices they do make, and why they made them.

This is very interesting. Especially in regards to Catherine were you forgot to look at another angle. Of a less deep value. The angle that gamers simply or usually choose the best option irregardless of their personal beliefs, feelings at the time, surrounding etc. Simply because they want the best ending. I know that is hilarious, but that is what it comes down to. The majority of players, lets throw a rock in the pond and hit the statistic of 80% of the players, simply want to be reaffirmed and make the correct moral compass choice to receive the best possible ending. So stats the end, can be a bit skewed and not accurate in the least. The latter percent, such as myself genuinely make decisions based on their persona. It is a similar thing seen in many RPGs as well.
You should check out the Walking Dead series now on, so far only Episode 1 is up released by Tell Tale, have a blast with that and see what happens....

Hey guys - Really great comments and some stuff for me to take on board.
@NeonBlade - I've actually played and reviewed the first episode of The Walking Dead (http://www.theplayer.ie/video-game-review/review-the-walking-dead-episode-1/) for an Irish website and interestingly enough this type of stuff came up during my review of that, prior to my experiences with Mind of Man. It's great though - Really looking forward to more :)
Thanks for getting involved guys - Love the thoughts, opinions and feedback.

Cool blog. I ended up being really impressed with the different direction that Shattered Memories took. I don't think its better than the "classic" Silent Hills (1-3) but it was surprisingly enjoyable and I will replay it in the future for more of the endings.
Haven't played Catherine yet so I skipped those parts, but I do intend to play it someday.
I was reminded of how Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas started: with personality exams to determine your skill set. Loved both those games too, so maybe there is some largely untapped potential for a little bit more psych in games.

Seaman on Dreamcast does a personality personality breakdown a at certain point of the game, all based on the answers you give Seaman. It's was pretty impressive for its time.
Holy crap - I forgot about Seaman... That was really impressive. Must use that as an example to the folks here at 2PaperDolls. Cheers @The Silent Protagonist
