I don't know, to be honest, how many people on D-Toid are into fighting games seriously (and by serious I mean serious enough to travel for tournaments), but another big tournament is just months away. Trashday 4 will be taking place in one of my least favorite cities in the union—Houston, Texas—on April 12, 2008. But it's still more than worth going. One of the big tournaments for Tekken since its inception, there will be a cool grand going to the winner of the Tekken 5:DR tournament.
There's also going to be a lot of 2d tourneys as well, including Guilty Gear, Marvel, 3S etc. The only downside is that it's in Houston, which may be fine for some people but wow I don't like that town. However, I'm planning on going anyway, because Texas has a good scene for the game and a lot of big-name players are going to be there. It'll be my first Tekken major, and although I'm probably going two and out tournaments are always fun. Plus, the University of Houston has a nice campus with a decent arcade (at least it was decent a couple years ago when I was there Texas Showdown).

Tekken Zaibatsu
Here's a quick list of the games being played: DR, Soul Calibur 3, MvC2, CvS2, Third Strike, Guilty Gear AC, Smash Bros. Brawl
as much as I keep up with fighters, I still have yet to enter in a tournament. Mainly cause i'm still borderline good in games outside of Tekken. I can hold somewhat of my own in 3S and CvS2. I'm garbage in MvC2 even with top tiers. (but i've pretty much stopped my MvC2 days years ago.)
One day....i'll enter in something. Just need the money and the time to train. I'm also kinda surprised not many people are starting to pick up Arcana Heart outside of Japan. As much talk it got on SRK.
I didn't even look at the date of the tourney. Um, yeah, I apologize. It's in April so Brawl will obviously be out by then. I don't live in the area, but if I did I would like to take a stab at the Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core tourney and the Brawl tourney. Good luck to all who attend!
@Shin Oni: You should give it a shot. I'm not very good at any of the games I play either, but once you get to know the people and the scene you have a good time regardless at tourneys (at least I do)
@S0lesurviv0r: I know both Austin and Houston have sizable scene, but I'm not sure about DFW. Check regional matchmaking threads on either forums.shoryuken.com or www.tekkenzaibatsu.com. They both should have Texas or even regional Texas threads.
