About
Welcome to the home of PlayStation Friday Night Fights.

Friday Night Fights is a weekly event where we, community members, cooperate with or murder each other online. There is a forum thread for planning and then a blog post here with the final schedule. Keep an eye out for both them if you want to play some games.

If you are new to the whole thing, check this out: FNF FAQ: Everything you need to know (but never asked) about Friday Night Fights

Front Page Archive

The Guide

To Play

• Keep yourself up to date on the schedule. The list in the forums can change several times throughout the week.

• Leave a message with your PSN name and which games from the schedule you want to play. More people will play if other people are playing, so speak up.

• Send a PSN friend request to the person hosting the game which includes a message with your Dtoid name. If you leave out who you are on the site, they might think you're just a random friend request and ignore you.

To Host

• If you want your game listed on the schedule, we need the game, the time, and your PSN ID. We need the specific game, not an abbreviation that applies to more than one; a start time, even if you're playing "all night"; and we need your PSN ID even if you think we know it already.

• Don't worry about hosting the same game or hosting a game at the same time as someone else. Instead, think of it like a movie theater; more than one game can run at the same time.

• Make sure you have at least an hour to play. That's only two or three matches of the average shooter and those go by pretty quick.

• Check the comments, on both the forum post and the cblog when it goes up on Friday, to see if someone has said they'll play. You might have missed their PSN message or your friend list might be full.

We Can Be All Poetic And Just Lose Our Minds Together

So The last of US: Remastered is out. Just in case you couldn't tell by the fact that the Last of Us is being hosted 3 times tonight at various times. Obviously this is interesting because I think it's the first time in the handful of years I've been assisting with the Playstation Friday Night Fights that one game has been hosted more so much. I think it's pretty kick ass because I love it and want to see more people playing it. It's still going to be a bit before I can jump on the Playstation 4 Bandwagon but it's still awesome.

My only problem with The Last of Us, and really this is an issue with Druckmann, but according to some Neogaf users and attendees of the recent One Night Live staged reading of the story, apparently there's a "alternate" ending that takes place about 4 years after the story ends involving our heroes from the story. On its face, not a big deal, whatever, unreleased story content happens all the time. But as I understand it they played it after the show and beforehand announced it would never be released anywhere and they requested that attendees not record it. Want to know what I have to say about that?

Fuck you Druckmann. Fuck you for releasing a brilliant story, teasing that there's more to the story and releasing it to at most a few hundred people. Fuck you and fuck whatever inspired you to do that. It costs you literally nothing to release that and just feels shitty. I know you'll never see this but what the hell would make you think this is a thing worth doing?

Druckmann later tried to clarify saying that it was just for that evening, that it wasn't meant to be part of the game, and gave us some further details, but still, what's the purpose of adding something like that if you didn't think it was worth adding such that you would later go online to say "wait, wait, it's not that big of a deal guys?"

Sometimes I hate the creatives behind games today. /rant

Now go play some Last of Us, it's fucking brilliant.

Welcome to the Playstation side of Friday Night Fights! Every Friday, members of the community get together online to play games and all you need to join is a user account. Down below, you'll find a list of games that we'll play tonight along with the times they'll start, the people that you should hit up for invites, and any other information that you may need.

If you want to play, leave a comment with the games from the schedule you want to play and your PSN name. You should also send a PSN friend request to the host and mention your username here in the message so they know you're one of the cool people and not just some random friend request.

If your favorite game isn't on the schedule, host it yourself! You just need to give us the game, start time, and your PSN name so people know what, when and who. It's also wise to list DLC requirements, game or server names, and anything else people might need to join just so you don't need to message it to everyone individually. Last minute additions in the comments here are fine, but games can also be added earlier in the week by visiting the forums and finding the thread with the coming Friday's date. Adding a game there ensures it's on the blog from the moment it goes up.

All times Eastern.

I guess there are worse things to be.

There's not much to go over here this week. I was on a podcast but my ISP decided that it didn't want to have anything to do with what those letters stand for (and of course it all came back online as we finished up the recording). I could tell you about that, but it would just be a reason not to go listen to me being edited out because I sound like bullet time Max Headroom when I connect to a five-person skype call from my phone.

Otherwise, the only important thing to mention is Gamestop's PS3 to PS4 trade-up program on The Last of Us. Bring in your old and busted PS3 version, get the new hotness of the PS4 version for twenty-five bucks. It makes the escape from cheaters a bit more appealing from a wallet angle.

I can't make people explode

Hey guys. The Defenestrator here. I’ve been hosting FNF’s on the PS4 side for the last seven months or so and Trev decided to draft me into the Big Leagues. (Lie. I asked politely and he didn’t care.)

Quick introduction: I founded our plucky little Warframe clan and I host our weekly Battlefield 4 get together, colloquially known as "Battlefriends." They’ve become FNF staples so feel free to hop in any Friday evening and give them a try. Warframe is basically the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer in free-to-play form and just about everything is available to craft without paying a cent, if you’re willing to invest some time and elbow grease. Battlefield 4 is about as fixed as it’s going to get. No more rubberbanding, lag issues, etc. So if the fact that the game didn’t work was your reason for avoiding it, jump on in. If you were avoiding it because it was a rushed mess that took months to get to a consistently playable state… well, that’s a pretty good reason, actually.

Anyway. Enough talk. Let’s get this going.

We stayed on a sailboat here, and you can literally see my grandmothers house from here.

Hey all! I'm back from my vacation to Dead Squirrel Island, which was luckily devoid of dead squirrels and looks like a million times prettier than anything Florida provides. Seriously. Don't visit Florida in summer. Why would you do that? Who visits Hell when the Garden of Eden is so readily available, and CHEAPER?

Also I should mention that Streamtoid is coming back!

Woo!

As with most holiday weekends, everything is a little harder to plan. Some people are gone, others don't know when they'll be getting back, lots of people have things to do and like to do them on their three-day weekend. But there are still games to play, and what better time to hang around with some friends and have drinks and fun than today? There being a few wires in between doesn't really matter, does it?

Have a happy Fourth, everyone.

The time should really be "after fireworks" but this is a good estimate.

I don't normally do vague times, but FNF doesn't usually start at 11. There's a 24 hour catalyst alert that we might want to pick up, for those that haven't by then. I don't know if we'll even get to Warframe or just mess around in GTA. If you're new and wanted to get some WF time with us, come back next week and we'll pick you up then.

PS+ wins again!

It might be getting repetitive at this point, but PS+ is really pretty amazing. I was skeptical of them making it a requirement. I don't believe that basic functions of games, which online play has become, should be locked behind additional costs. However, PS+ has kept up the string of free games. The price of what I'll download next month covers the cost of the year's subscription, if I were to buy them that is. That doesn't even count the games I got last month or the month before, or will be getting in the future. How great is that?

I still don't like paying for online play because so many games rely on it, but I consider that to be something that was added into the PS+ stuff and not the primary reason to get it. It's actually a lot like Netflix for games; it gives you the opportunity to play games "for free" and not have to worry about if you're going to like it or if it will be a good value for the cost. You just get games that there's no reason not to try. I wasn't all about the new Strider game, but now I'll have it. What the hell, I'll play some Strider.
