About
Welcome to the home of PlayStation Friday Night Fights.

Friday Night Fights is a weekly event where we, community members, cooperate with or murder each other online. There is a forum thread for planning and then a blog post here with the final schedule. Keep an eye out for both them if you want to play some games.

If you are new to the whole thing, check this out: FNF FAQ: Everything you need to know (but never asked) about Friday Night Fights

Front Page Archive

The Guide

To Play

• Keep yourself up to date on the schedule. The list in the forums can change several times throughout the week.

• Leave a message with your PSN name and which games from the schedule you want to play. More people will play if other people are playing, so speak up.

• Send a PSN friend request to the person hosting the game which includes a message with your Dtoid name. If you leave out who you are on the site, they might think you're just a random friend request and ignore you.

To Host

• If you want your game listed on the schedule, we need the game, the time, and your PSN ID. We need the specific game, not an abbreviation that applies to more than one; a start time, even if you're playing "all night"; and we need your PSN ID even if you think we know it already.

• Don't worry about hosting the same game or hosting a game at the same time as someone else. Instead, think of it like a movie theater; more than one game can run at the same time.

• Make sure you have at least an hour to play. That's only two or three matches of the average shooter and those go by pretty quick.

• Check the comments, on both the forum post and the cblog when it goes up on Friday, to see if someone has said they'll play. You might have missed their PSN message or your friend list might be full.

I'm not really supposed to swear in the titles anymore. It's frowned upon.

Okay, so first thing's first, I'm drinking right now because beer is delicious and fuck you that's why. I drink therefore I'm drunk. Anyway, that's out of the way onto the actual post. [EDIT: I'm less drunk now and just grumpy. I would reeeeeaaaally love it if the Blog Editor had not completely borked the hell out of the blog I typed up...]

Earlier this week Sony threw down with a pretty fantastic sale, the "Golden Week Sale" I'm not actually sure what it celebrates but apparently it's four national holidays so... Awesome, hurrah, bananas. But glancing through that list, seriously there are some worthwhile deals there, and if you're a PS+ member (and if you aren't I'd really genuinely like to know why you're not) they're borderline Steam level sales and are well worth a once over.

To Highlight a few:

Armored Core: Verdict Day -- $5 (Is this worth picking up at this price?)
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection -- $12 on PS3, $9 on Vita
Muramasa Rebirth --$7.50 (Though Sadly the DLC is not on sale)
Persona 4 Golden -- $15
Tales of Symphonia Chronicles -- $10.00
Zone of the Enders HD Collection -- $10.50 (Also probably where my last chunk of PSN Credit is going pending other folks' thoughts and verification of having only $10 or having $15)

You can glance through the rest of the deals here:
LIIIIIIIINK

Regardless these deals are pretty phenomenal and it's exciting to see the folks over at Sony really pushing some great stuff at really amazing deals. Thoughts on other awesome sales? Comments on the games available here? Recommendations? Share them in the comments!

Welcome to the Playstation side of Friday Night Fights! Every Friday, members of the community get together online to play games and all you need to join is a user account. Down below, you'll find a list of games that we'll play tonight along with the times they'll start, the people that you should hit up for invites, and any other information that you may need.

If you want to play, leave a comment with the games from the schedule you want to play and your PSN name. You should also send a PSN friend request to the host and mention your username here in the message so they know you're one of the cool people and not just some random friend request.

If your favorite game isn't on the schedule, host it yourself! You just need to give us the game, start time, and your PSN name so people know what, when and who. It's also wise to list DLC requirements, game or server names, and anything else people might need to join just so you don't need to message it to everyone individually. Last minute additions in the comments here are fine, but games can also be added earlier in the week by visiting the forums and finding the thread with the coming Friday's date. Adding a game there ensures it's on the blog from the moment it goes up.

Fucking hell... I started playing again and in the course of two days grinded for about a million credits, farmed Nekros, Hydroid, finally got the Vauban Chassis I needed, and cleared out my Foundry of the 15 items that were in it. I hate you people.

Only with more incompetent sales people.

This is work right now. I'll see you all tonight.

Be ready for Drunkframe, because that's what will be going on by then.

Sadness

In case you didn't know, and you were living under a rock all week, the Atlanta office for CCP was shut down Monday. For those of you that don't know, I used to work with those people. It was an odd feeling knowing that the place you got your start in doing what you love is now no more. Tearing up just thinking about it, actually. As I write this Thursday night, they are having one last hurrah before the ones that already have new jobs move to their new cities. That office was full of the best of the best, and it is a damn shame the project was shut down. I honestly thought I would go back to work there, but now it won't ever happen.

That said, I am heartwarmed by the outpouring of support for those let go, it reminds me of why I love the games industry so much. Even with all of its questionable business practices, the backbone of the industry is full of amazing people who just want to make others happy.

Now, on to the games :)

Ahh ye glorious shine...

I love my PS3, I love my Vita, I love Sony. (Mostly... Right now I'm actually pretty pissed because to be perfectly honest I'm still waiting on a refund for my purchase of BlazBlue that never worked and may or may not be the cause of my PS3's possibly approaching paralysis) Sadly, I think my PS3's days may finally be coming to an end. I've got access to another one in the household, but it's not mine and that's sad. I've been playing on a PS3 Fat for a very long time in Gaming years. spring/summer of 2007/2008 and I can't really think of all that many games I didn't enjoy playing. Where that puts me now is making that ever difficult decision: Do I spend my money responsibly, sell my old (mostly bjorked) car and put my recent job monies towards a new car, or do I do something I just buy a PS4. I mean I can tell you which one I want... Anyway.

I'm running on about 0 hours of sleep right now and about to head off for Rochester for the weekend. (Any Rochester, NY Dtoiders can try messaging me, I'll be in town until Sunday at about 10am but am pretty busy all weekend. I will however be at the Museum of Play for some unspecified amount of time on Saturday.) But wanted to make sure I got this all scheduled and typed up. I should be back next week for some games but y'all have a wonderful evening and I'll talk to you soon.

I TOLD YOU I'D DO IT, NEXUS!

My opinion of Chrono Phantasma is sort of mixed. They buffed Bang and Arakune in important ways, but also took away things I liked about them. Valkenhayn is apparently getting a bit of tweaking in a patch in addition to what he got between games, but I keep whiffing what was one of his strongest normal attacks. I'll have to work on that. He's supposed to be one of the strongest characters. On the bright side, Amane is cool. Apparently also bottom of every tier list, but still cool, like a combination of Leeron and Scorpion. And he is looking for some beautiful men. For dancing, of course. He's fun to play and has some very funny lines. I don't think any of us are playing at a skill level where tiers matter. On top of that, BlazBlue is balanced well enough that tiers are more a rating of how hard you have to work. No character is just totally outmatched, you just have to be on the ball to overcome... unless you're fighting Kokonoe, which means the only way to win is to just your game off, because Kokonoe.

Mercenary Kings is pushing my buttons. For every one thing I like, there are two or three that I don't. I'm going to stick with it a while longer, but it was free so I don't have the stubborn drive to get my money's worth out of it. It's got the delayed jumps of Castlevania, but much pickier projectile blocking. It's got medusa heads and those helicopter things from Mega Man, but I can't fire at an angle to hit them and the movement isn't Mega Man responsive to navigate around them. There's a time limit, but the boss can move around the map mid-fight, like it just walks through a big door and teleports to the other end of the map. The damage model is unforgiving, but enemies respawn infinitely and instantly. I'm just not quite sure what this game wants to be or wants from me. I don't think I'm having fun scouring a very samey level for ten gold coins instead of chasing a boss across it a few times.

Hey all!

I am your new PS FNF hostess for this week, and I hope you will all welcome me with open arms and guns blazing. This is my first time writing for the FNF blog, as well as being my very first C-Blog! So try to not rip me a new one if I mess it up too badly ;)

I recently bought myself a PS4, and I must admit everything about it makes me happy. The one thing that bugs me is the inability to have multiple output sources for the audio, so I cannot have my headphones use optical audio (and chat) and my TV use HDMI audio. At least, I haven't figured it out quite yet... Not a deal breaker, but it was something the PS3 supported, but I also know the headset support was a little lacking to begin with. As for games, I've been playing a TON of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and having waaay more fun with it than I should.  The parkour always bugs me, but now that I figured out that holding 'R2' with 'X' or 'O' makes you jump farther/higher ('X') or shorter/lower ('O') than normal has made playing it a bit easier. I can now direct Kenway to go more or less where I want him. I don't yell at the screen *quite* so much anymore when walking around.

And berserk darts are so damn broken. 'Oh, an assassination contract where I get a bonus for avoiding combat? Guess I'll just blowdart him and let him fight his own men.' Then, even if they win, they still die.  It feels like cheating to use them. Ah well, on to the games tonight! I'll be joining for Battlefield 4 (PS4) if you want to hear me yell expletives at the enemy :)

And Ninja Turtles are apparently a thing that is happening. Is Michael Bay married to Megan Fox or something...?
