About
Welcome to the home of PlayStation Friday Night Fights.

Friday Night Fights is a weekly event where we, community members, cooperate with or murder each other online. There is a forum thread for planning and then a blog post here with the final schedule. Keep an eye out for both them if you want to play some games.

If you are new to the whole thing, check this out: FNF FAQ: Everything you need to know (but never asked) about Friday Night Fights

The Guide

To Play

Keep yourself up to date on the schedule. The list in the forums can change several times throughout the week.

Leave a message with your PSN name and which games from the schedule you want to play. More people will play if other people are playing, so speak up.

Send a PSN friend request to the person hosting the game which includes a message with your Dtoid name. If you leave out who you are on the site, they might think you're just a random friend request and ignore you.

To Host

If you want your game listed on the schedule, we need the game, the time, and your PSN ID. We need the specific game, not an abbreviation that applies to more than one; a start time, even if you're playing "all night"; and we need your PSN ID even if you think we know it already.

Don't worry about hosting the same game or hosting a game at the same time as someone else. Instead, think of it like a movie theater; more than one game can run at the same time.

Make sure you have at least an hour to play. That's only two or three matches of the average shooter and those go by pretty quick.

Check the comments, on both the forum post and the cblog when it goes up on Friday, to see if someone has said they'll play. You might have missed their PSN message or your friend list might be full.

I started Binding of Isaac Rebirth on Thursday and I think I finished it that same day. I've defeated Mom and Mom's Heart. I know there's "more", but the game really hasn't clicked with me. The roguelike elements are cool, but I don't like the vague hitbox or arc on the shots. I quickly learned that lining up Isaac's feet with the target was more effective than trying to aim the shots themselves. I know that it comes from displaying a 3D space with 2D elements on a 2D screen, but knowing and working around it doesn't make me like it any more.

Maybe we'll do some streaming now that we can opt-in to broadcasting party voice. I think that was new in firmware 2.0 and it almost makes up for how stupid the rest of it was. Trev

Welcome to the Playstation side of Friday Night Fights! Every Friday, members of the community get together online to play games and all you need to join is a user account. Down below, you'll find a list of games that we'll play tonight along with the times they'll start, the people that you should hit up for invites, and any other information that you may need.

If you want to play, leave a comment with the games from the schedule you want to play and your PSN name. You should also send a PSN friend request to the host and mention your username here in the message so they know you're one of the cool people and not just some random friend request.

If your favorite game isn't on the schedule, host it yourself! You just need to give us the game, start time, and your PSN name so people know what, when and who. It's also wise to list DLC requirements, game or server names, and anything else people might need to join just so you don't need to message it to everyone individually. Last minute additions in the comments here are fine, but games can also be added earlier in the week by visiting the forums and finding the thread with the coming Friday's date. Adding a game there ensures it's on the blog from the moment it goes up.

Hello darkness, my old friend...

Yesterday was my birthday. I celebrated it by eating General Tso chicken and watching RoboCop, which is a step up above the original plan of eating a free Denny's Grand Slam for dinner alone after work.

I was innundated with Facebook greetings and phone calls that served to only briefly keep at bay the implacable ennui of acknowleding the ever-quickening downward spiral into the oblivion that awaits us all after our bodies inevitably betray us and cease to function.

We all die alone.

But you know what you don't have to do alone? Play vidyas! We're entering the holiday season and big games are coming out left and right now so there should be plenty to keep us all interested. I've stopped buying most AAA games at launch because they tend to get used as testing grounds for sketchy DLC practices but people are apparently enjoying the new Call Of Duty. We have a bunch of potentionally interesting stuff on the horizon as well. I'm particularly curious about Far Cry 4. While I still stand by Far Cry 2 (particularly the buddy system) as the best in the series, people really enjoyed FC3, and FC4 looks to be more of the same, for better or worse. At any rate, there's going to plenty of things to choose from in the near future. The Defenestrator

I have the POWAH Sweet banner.

So if you haven't heard, the Friday Night Fights banner is finally complete! (And during my week for PS FNF, no less ;) ) If you want to check it out it's right here! It looks pretty fucking sweet, and Mikey even gave us a bunch of backgrounds and all the characters so you can do whatever you feel like doing with them.

Me and the beau are going to stay in and watch scary movies and probably play some Costume Quest 2! What are you wonderful peoples' plans for Halloween? Lots of candy? Or hitting up a bar to mack on some drunk people? (I won't judge) Because you certainly aren't playing any games tonight ;) KymikoLoco

I think he might be my Spirit Animal.

So I’m good enough to fill out the blog, but bad enough at reading it to hope that I got this right. If I didn’t Trev will just make fun of me and well, that’s just Friday Night. I was hoping against hope that the PS+ edition of Driveclub would be out this week. I’m not surprised it’s not but it certainly would have been nice. I will admit I’ve been reading a lot of reactions about it and while I’m certainly annoyed at the game’s release and treatment, the reaction of some pieces of the community has been insanely venemous. As someone who is frequently grumpy about games it’s still weird to see that side of things.

Anyway, I have a date I need to get ready for. I’ll see you folks tonight for some spectacular video games. Cheers! Cornflake

Warframe Trev 11:00pm ElZilcho It’s funny that we’ve reached roughly a point in Destiny where grinding there feels much the same as grinding in Grindframe: The Grindening. Man I really need that Shiv, I mean Sheev. Also, fuck you, Rhino is cool. YEAH RHINO!

I know the image is too tall for this, but what part would you have cut off?

So busy. Someone renew all these domains for me to I can code a webmail interface. Trev

Xeno Kiss DLC available January 2015

I can always trust the month of October to overload me with horror-related stuff to watch or play.

I picked up Alien: Isolation on launch day, pre-ordered at GameStop because I wanted early access to the DLC with the original cast of Alien and because I’m part of the problem. It’s definitely interesting so far. I’ve been saving it for the weekend so I can properly dive in but they really nailed the atmosphere in the opening level. The character models and mocap are kind of awkward (lip sync in an opening scene was terrible) but otherwise solid. It’s a ballsy move for them to go for a straight up survival horror game in a time when they’re still a somewhat niche PC market. I hope it sells well so more devs will takes chances on the genre.

The Evil Within is due out on Tuesday and I expect fairly mediocre reviews from people expecting either pure survival horror or something along the lines of Mikami’s benchmark, Resident Evil 4. After watching the demo footage on YouTube, it seems like it’s more along the lines of a bigger budget, less Suda51-ish Shadows Of The Damned. I’m always down for a big, gory action/horror game so I expect I’ll get a lot more mileage out of it than the reviewers do.

Also, after travelling around on the festival circuit for a few years, they’re finally releasing the Director’s Cut of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed on Blu-Ray at the end of the month. It was really underrated with some fantastic practical effects despite clearly being chopped up in post-production. Bringing it back was a real labor of love for the Barker and the fans, so I’m interested to finally check it out. Plus a new ABC’s Of Death and V/H/S/3 anthology movies on VOD. I really do love this month.

Jars of spiders forever.
