Hello members of the Dtoid community, my name is PK Startstorm but offline people call me Serge.
I been lurking a lot in Dtoid the past months until I found the balls to join and make an account, I made it a long time ago cause blogging isn't something I'm good at, but I might as well give it a try now no?
I guess I might as well introduce myself properly to all of you, I'm Serge, born in Brasil July 12 1988 and living in Mexico since 1993, in San Pedro, it's pretty close to the border. I belong to a family of 6, my progenitors and my siblings, I am the oldest so I'm the one my parents usually test their parenting skills with.
I'm studying International Business and Finance in Mexico, I really like this career because it brings me closer to my goal of traveling the world. Of course in this career you must speak multiple languages, which is a big passion I have, languages. I speak Spanish, Portuguese, English(duh), Italian, German and Arabic. Took me quite a while to finish German and Arabic currently on the last year which consists mostly of conversation. Besides being a polyglot I play rugby in my school's team, the swimming team and practice Muay Thai. I'm very fond of sports, the thing is while I might be good on real life sport I suck, and literally suck at videogame sports( just broke one of the videogamers commandment! ), which is why I won't talk a lot of about them, if at all.
Apart from the geek skills I party with my friends and like to meet new people, which defies all laws of geekdom. Other hobbies include reading ( Haruki Murakami and Kurt Vonnegut are IMO the best authors of the century ), eating asian food in alarming amounts, comedy and horror movie fandom, hearing music while moving my head like I just don't care, and of course, one of the most important hobbies in my life, videogames.
Since I was a little I guess I was very videogame oriented, my mother bought me Super Mario/ Duck Hunt and my first console, my NES, which I still have and treasure. I was then introduced to Ducktales and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, games I must have played to death, getting excited over all the secrets, getting pumped when you finished a level, or when you defeated a boss. The rush, the adrenaline, the excitement are what made me a videogame junkie.
Then came a new age of gaming on Christmas 1992, I was 4 years old and Santa Claus must have not checked his list twice because he brought me not only a SNES console, but also Contra III The Alien Wars and Krusty's Super Fun House. You might as well expect that I stayed home for about a week playing because I did, seriously at the end of the week I must have lost 3/20 of my eyesight for being glued to the television screen because I woke up, played, ate, played, and slept. The SNES era was where I discovered my favorite gaming genres and played some of the games that I love. The list includes but is not limited to:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4
Earthbound (seriously, it's quality Japan for you)
Donkey Kong 1-3 ( <3 )
Super Mario World 2
Monopoly ( weekends were lonely )
Final Fantasy 6
Super Mario RPG
Legend of Zelda
Mortal Kombat 3
Street Fighter 2
and more that I can't remember, but you get the idea that I played the best games of those times.
Then Japan strikes again! With the N64 and PS1, of course this is were I confirmed I was a RPG junkie, I played and still do with many of the games in those times. I could go on about each new generation of console games but I think I pushed this writer stage to much.
My favorite genres come down to Adventure, Strategy, RPG, Shooters, Fighiting, and dislike Sports. I'm proud of this entire piece I wrote because I managed to do this and finish up a plate of Japanese Curry at the same time.
