Ever since I saw a friend of mine in kindergarten playing on a gameboy that I've always wanted to have a gaming console, but every time I asked my parents for one, they would say no and walk away. ut one day, about 2 months after PSP was released, my father came to me and said:
-"Little derp, if you can solve this ten problems, I will give you your much wanted PSP" And so, in the christmas I got my PSP, with GTA Vice City Stories and Sonic Rivals (I was about 10 years old, but my parents never really cared about age ratings, thank god).
I played those two games for a year, and I beat sonic rivals a few times, but I still didn't have a memory card, so every time I wanted to play one of my two games, I would have to lose all my progress.
Meanwhile, probably in April, my dad finds a PSP on his school, he takes it home and gives it to miy little brother.
We now have two PSP, in less than a year, I was overwelmed with hapiness.
Finally, christmas came and I got my first 2gig memory card and a game I had always wanted for the PSP, "Mercury Meltdown", one of the games that was shown in the PSP demo UMD. I got it bundled with X-Treme Party, a god awful game. In that year I also bought Tony Hawk's Project 8, which I loved!
But then I heard that a friend of mine had bought one of them Slim & Lite psps and that she had games for free. So, I asked her to take my PSP and take it to her neighbour for some hacking. That's when I got into the PSP hacking scene, I learned where and how to download PSP games, I learned how to install games, and most important, I learned how to hack other PSPs. In under a year I had hacked more than 5 PSP, including my brothers. I was playing new games left and right, but then I discovered the retro emulators. I spent hours playing "Zombies ate my neighbours" on the megadrive, "Sunset Riders" on the SNES and "Pokemon" on the gameboy. I had like 15 consoles in on little portable unit, what else could I ask for?
That year I got a wii, and in the nest I got an Xbox360, and I began collecting consoles, all because of the PSP. Now I have a Dreamcast, a Saturn, a PS1, all of the color gameboys a Nintendo DS and yet another PSP!
Right now most PSP games are dirt cheap (I mean, bundles of 3 games for 10$? Count me in) and I am starting to add my favorite titles (that I had pirated) in fisical form to my collection.
And with your lifespan coming to an end (the PSP will have probably 2 more years), all I can say is that you are the best thing I could've asked for.
Also, thank you Dark_AleX, for showing me that a console can do more than what it's meant to.
P.S.: If you want to buy a PSP I suggest buying one of the PHAT ones (the first model), they are more versatiles and durable, the two I have here are still kicking.
