I made my weekly visit to GamePolitics.com today and saw an update to a story from almost a year ago. It updates (sort of) what is going on with the 32 people who had their homes raided by Homelad Security as well as ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) because they had.....*GASP* Mod Chips!!!!

Now, far be it for me, a lowly consumer who enjoys certain free things that are offered through the interwebz....But does this not seem to be a bit over the top when we consider where our world and particularly the US government is? I know they were raided almost 1 year ago, and it just seems like these resources could have been put to a much better use.

Now the fact that there has been so much money, Federal money, used for anti-game legislation, court filings by our dear friend (and soon to be disbarred) Jack Thompson (a lot of this was state money, but at some point he blurred that line too) and raiding John Q Publics house because he is running Linux on his Xbox and playing SNES games on it (THE HORROR!). Shouldn't this weigh heavily on the minds of those elected, that instead of trying to enforce the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, maybe we could throw that into some, oh I don't know, books, teachers salaries, maybe enforce the fair labor laws that conglomorates like Wal-Mart shy away and fuck their employees over with instead of making sure some guy can't play a free copy of Chrono Trigger....

In life there are things known to reasonable folks as priorities...Apparently somewhere along the way these crazy "priorities" change when someone waves a couple grand at your re-election funding...It's not like we are in a global economy where the US is starting to fall hard in, or a war, or facing manipulated oil shortages where giant corporations like EXXON post record setting profits each quarter while the price at the pump for me and you climbs closer to 5 bucks a gallon. If all that were happening, I'm sure that we wouldn't be...

This is more rant than anything (no shit) and maybe this doesn't make sense...but Jesus H Christ! What the fuck happened? Lobbyists just keep racking up wins while the people on whose back the country is built get pushed further and further towards the breaking point. If I remember right, there was a revolution for much less...
