In the waking world, I am a very quiet guy. I've was a quiet kid most my life and grew into a quiet adult. I wear headphones all the time, tend to have a perma-scowl on my face and go from point A to point B without engaging most of humanity.
This comes from a combination of slow building rage for my fellow man, addiction to ether frolics, and the fact that I work on a college campus full of college students who, I have come to realize, are essentially high school students with even less responsibility. No disrespect to any high school kids here. You will love college. It's great. However, once you get out of college you tend get annoyed by college kids much like college kids tend to get annoyed by high school kids. It's just part of the gig. If you're a college kid reading this, don't stand in the damn hallway chatting with your friends blocking the entire hallway.
However, when I come to this site, I find myself engaging in others in a (for the most part) friendly and civil manner, enjoying reading entire articles on things
other than Suda 51, and genuinely having fun. I tell all my friends and fellow video game nerds about Destructoid. Once I get to work and drink my coffee, I open the site where it stays open and I just hit refresh every hour or so see what's going on. The personalities of members and staff alike make this place feel like an actual community to me which is why I come back everyday, dolling out wisdom and decoder rings.
So yeah, ramble ramble. Thanks Destructoid staff and my fellow members. It's a real treat to come here everyday and laugh and talk shit and just have fun with all of you. May the next 4 years for this site be as prosperous and enjoyable as the past four.
So, to Niero, Destructoid, and all of you who make this site worth coming back to:
So yeah, if you play MAG or an online shooter with me... do't stand in the damn hallway, the damn doorway or the damn stairs - move your ass!
Now that I've gotten that lil rant out of my system... I fully agree that it's the personalities and welcoming attitude of the staff and the regulars that makes this place "home". :)
@Elsa: Though I don't play a lot of online shooters, the few times I have I have encountered this problem. It makes me seethe with rage. Thanks to you for being one of the many personalities that make this site such a joy to visit.
Also U Occams! UUUUU <3
You are undoubtedly one such person.
My only complaint is that I never received one of your much lauded decoder rings. I see the new guys all running around with theirs, as if entitled to it. I have seen it gifted to them, whereupon they will joke about it or even remain oblivious to the invaluable charm that has been afforded them. My blood boils and I am filled with an uncontrollable rage; I find myself wishing for their timely, slow, and torturous demise. I finally die a little on the inside, knowing that it is not my place to question the bestower of the ring, and I continue my hollow existence.
@Enkido: Thank you for your kinds words. As for the decoder rings, they were handed out after you had joined but on behalf of myself and the Shadow Council who gives me all my fabulous decoder rings and prizes, I gift to you a decoder ring and the dvd box set of The Torkelsons: The Complete Series. Use these items wisely and may the guiding hand of the Shadow Council lead you to ultimate joy.
And on that note, I'm now starving and will seek out dinner.
