About Me
Alright, basic intro:

I was born in 1984, which means I grew up just a tad late to be an Atari front runner (still got one and played the shit outta it) but I did get to grow up with Nintendo. I've bought every Nintendo console on release day (Wii included, 32 hours outside of Wal-mart).

I'm a "hardcore gamer" but I detest the term and I won't fit into any damn mold! I LOVE retro games, and I think 90% of the shit on the game market right now isn't worth the time or money I'd have to spend to burn those shitty studios that make these games to the ground.

I hate the fact that the FPS genre has become so flooded it's hard to find anything good and not WWII, and I think the last good FPS was Half-life 2 (HL2+Source+Bioshock WTF PWN ALL).

I've been PC gaming since I was 3

Shit I've bought:

Nintendo - NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, N64, Game Boy Color, GB Advance (+SP), Virtual Boy (fun ass system imo), Gamecube, GB Micro (was a gift, I prolly wouldn't have bought one), DS, DS Lite, Wii.

Sony - Playstation, Playstation 2 (3 of em so far), PSone. Gonna buy a PS3 only if it's under $300, and a PSP when it's cheaper.

M$ - Winblows 3.1 up to Vista Ultimate (I bit the bullet and got Vista when I built my latest PC), Xbox. Gonna buy a 360 when the revamped 65nm version is down under $300.

The first computer I gamed on:
Name: IBM Personal Computer 5150
Processor: Intel 8088 @ 4.77 MHz (A beast!)
Memory: 64 KiB
Hard Drive: Ehhh... Nope.
Network card: Hehe... nope.
Keyboard: "Compared to the keyboards of other small computers, the IBM PC keyboard is the Rolls-Royce." Real quote from a review back in the day!
Monitor: 8" CGA graphic mode; 320 x 200 resolution.

My Current PC:
MB: ASUS P5N32-E NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI
Proc: Intel Quad Core Q6600
RAM: 4Gbs of Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 800
VidCard: 2x (SLI'ed) EVGA 320-P2-N815-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB

My Backup Computer:
MB: MSI K8T Neo,
Proc: AMD64 2100+ w/ 1mb L2 Cache
RAM: 2Gb DDR 400
VidCard: Nvidia Geforce 7800 GS, 512 Mb

On Steam Now: An Amazing [Insert Belief's Holiday Here] Gift From Valve
Nyteshade | 1:24 PM on 12.24.2007 14 comments

Not sure if this was already posted or in a blog somewhere, but I just logged into Steam this morning and saw a wonderful early gift from Valve. If you don't have Steam installed, and you have a working PC, you should go here and download it now. Steam has everything from old school to new, indie to big studios, and a nice interface with decent download speeds... but thats not all...

ON STEAM NOW!!!

That's right, from December 24 (today) to January 1, EVERY GAME ON STEAM is discounted between 10-50%.

This includes one of my all time favorites...

Is 50% off on Steam right now, making it only only $9.99!!! I know many may already have it, buy for a measly $10 it's a great gift. It also can't hurt to have any of these games tagged to your online account. Which means you can download anywhere, anytime...

Also, don't forget about Steam's new gift service. I can attest that it works well, and makes it easy as pie to get your gamer friend a cheap gift for the holidays.

UPDATE ON DISCOUNTS!!!

BioShock = 25% OFF = $37.45
CoD4 = 10% OFF = $44.95
Orange Box = 25% OFF = $37.45
STALKER = 25% OFF = $22.45
ID Super Pack (From Wolfenstein 3D to Doom 3) = 25% OFF = $52.45
Company of Heroes = 25% OFF = $22.45
Two Worlds = 50% OFF = $19.95
Civ4 = 25% OFF = $29.95

Get in on that madness!

I've been talking to my friends about this.
I would buy Psychonauts but Steam doesn't allow installing games from Cache Backups if you're in offline mode...

So that means you can install anywhere, anytime... if you have an internet connection.

Well... If your somewhere without access to the big I... you've got to be in a third-world country... or a really, really, poor friends house?

No, there are LOTS of public hotspots. The problem is that all of those block the ports that Steam uses to connect.
If you can backup the games' cache while in offline mode, you should also be able to install it too.

Hey Yash, this is for you:

I was already planning on buying a couple of things before I go to the family dinner, so this is great =).

@Kamikaze - Meh, asking Valve to allow Steam to install and play games without an Internet connection completely defeats half of what Steam was made for.

Steam is a very useful anti-piracy tool along with being the best digital game distribution service out there. If Valve opened up initial data downloads, with unlimited installs (akin to an ISO), you've essentially taken away any piracy protection Steam offers.

Also, while it's still easy to get Steam games on torrents, the Steam service has me buying lots of games I normally would have just downloaded before.

Oh fuck yes. I feel that now is the proper time to actually buy the Orange Box. $37? Holy fucking shit yes.

I have pre-ordered every Valve game on Steam since Half-Life 2.

But if they allow us to play in offline mode, why can't we install our cache backups in the same way?

They could easily solve this. It's just a matter of applying restrictions. If the user installs the game cache while in online mode, no restrictions are in process. If the user installs the game cache while in offline mode, that cache will only be installed if the user data corresponds to the login data saved by Steam.

If I have the cache with me, I'll use it instead of waiting to download the game. While I really like Steam, downloading stuff sometimes bites, depending of the speed.

@Kamikaze - Damn you to hell for that.

Still, I'll get Stalker or Company of Heroes, since all the others I already have. Except Two worlds.

@Eschatos

Get Company of Heroes, it's great. Also, EVERYTHING has a discount, not just the games listed there.
