VGdrum: Mega Man 10 "Solar Inferno"

Pixelitis Link

I’m back and in *gasp* high-definition! And not only that – my drums are miked up for the first time ever. Super special thanks to my friend Phil, who with his trusty Macbook Pro and several drum mics, patiently waited for me to stop messing up all of my takes. Hope you enjoy (there are plenty more recordings on the way)!

A word to the wise: If you're going to record something, make sure you have more than capable equipment of doing it. My friend & I were struggling for a good week or two trying to get these recordings to work out well without any hiccups, until we said "eff it" and went with better equipment. From there on, recording was painless.

I appreciate any constructive criticism you might have regarding the mix, my friend tooled around with it a lot to get it to how it sounds now. I know it can only get better from here on out with future recordings.

Even now, after what we both considered a good take, I can notice little nuances here and there that I could have worked on (like the timing of certain crash hits), but I hope you enjoy it regardless!

I still haven’t finished Mega Man 10 on my Wii (those Wily stage bosses are tough), but damn does it have awesome music! This particular track was composed by Yasuaki “BUNBUN” Fujita, who also composed one of my favorite videogame soundtracks of all time: Breath of Fire for the SNES/Super Famicom! I remember the first time listening to this track in Solar Man’s stage I thought “this sounds like 8-bit thrash metal!” From that point on, I knew I had to do a drum cover of it. I particularly love the fast-paced, thrash-metaly part. Always headbangable.

Special thanks to the folks at Destructoid, Pixelitis and MAGfest for their support, particularly during PAX East. I finally got to meet some of the awesome people on this site, including Tony, Max, Holly and Hamza. Also got to see Andrew B. again, and that's always nice! The Dtoid community is an awesome bunch.

I even got to drum up on stage at the PAX East Jamspace. That kicked a lot of ass, and I even got complimented by Grant Henry from Metroid Metal. Here's the video for that.

Engineered, mixed, mastered & co-produced by Phil Silvestro.

Mega Man 10 (known as Rockman 10 in Japan) was developed by Inti Creates/Capcom and published by Capcom in 2010 for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
