I've been drumming for six and a half years now, and for the longest time I've really wanted to do rock, metal, and jazz renditions of my favorite video game songs. Bands like The Black Mages, The NESkimos, the Minibosses, The Advantage, Vomitron, Stemage, and The OneUps really inspired me and made me want to make my own beats to video game songs, especially from games that have yet to be covered, like the Breath of Fire series. So last year my brother got a nice, expensive Panasonic digital video camera and since the beginning of the year I've uploaded videos of myself drumming to my favorite video game music. With some songs I try to stay as close as possible to the original drumming but I do add my own stuff to a lot of it.

What I do with the SNES music is I use the emulator ZSNES. When playing a game, F5 through F12 turns off certain parts of the SNES' 8 sound channels. In Mystic Quest's case, I turned off F10, F11, and F12 to turn off the drums. I then started a battle, and used the program Audacity to record the song (just select "What U Hear" from the dropdown menu). When it's done recording, I export it as an .mp3. This is a great tool for those who want to focus in on a single instrument.
