5 Reasons why Dante's Inferno is FAR BETTER then God of War 3
Normalgamer | 6:19 PM on 03.15.2010 37 comments

1. The story-

Seriously the whole mythology thing is over done in games. I know God of War is trying to be some epic trilogy but face it, it's outdated and way overdone. Dante's Inferno, on the other hand, was original. You don't see too many books (or poems for that matter) that were written in the early 1300's and are now button-mashing badass video games. I think the point is clear, get a new idea!

2. Length-

God of War 3 was about 10 hours long, with unlocking everything mind you. That is not the bang for my buck that I want when I make a purchase. Call me cheap but I like to stretch my dollar as far as it can go. Dante's Inferno gives you two completely different routes to go (Holy and Unholy). It made the game much more in depth and made me feel like I had a real say in the story. Along with that, completely the game in 9-10 hours with all the collectibles is impossible. Oh and guess what? GoW 3 has no replay feature, so once you're done, you're done. Dante's at least had "Resurrection Mode"

3. Fan Boys-

You guys have yet again managed to over hype and ruin another franchise, way to go. The way you unfairly treated Dante's Inferno was for no real reason at all. Because it's like God of War? So what if it fell in the same genre. I don't bash Need for Speed cause it's not Gran Turismo... they both have cars what should I do!?!? Give it a rest fan boys and get a life.

4. Main Character-

Kratos lets face it is an epic douche. Boo hoo i wanna fight Zeus.... give me a break. Poor little Kratos doesn't have a daddy. You're the puss-bag that gave up your soul to Ares because you were afraid of dying. Face your mistakes. Dante is fighting for his soul, redemption, and for his life long love he so horrifically betrayed. Whats more epic? Facing pussy mythological villains that are a dime a dozen or heading down to the depths of hell to take on Lucifer in an epic one on one show down for your soul? I think the answer of who is a better character is a given.

5. One Liners-

Kratos is either really stupid or really corny. Dante managed to carry on conversations and toss out questions. Kratos is just an over roided meat head who hit the gym to many times after his penis shrank. Get with it man Dante is the new button mashing champ so lets hope God of War is done for good.

I'm gonna play Devil's advocate and say only one of these has anything do with gameplay. Just sayin'.

I don't see the big deal with either but that's quite the hole in your argument in my opinion.

Really only one? Cause I count 4 having to do with gameplay. I feel like the main character, dialogue (one liners), story, and length have a lot to do with gameplay. You know like if it's long and doesn't offer a whole lot, the main character is boring and outdated then that can (and in this case did)makethe gameplay a total let down. Would you buy a game that was just good looking but only 10 hours long with no substance? If so you sir are easily entertained by shiny flashy colors.

What I mean is those aren't direct factors (except length).

For example look at FFXIII. Arguably the dialog is bad and the plot is just all over the fucking place. However the gameplay I fucking fantastic so people are still soaking it up.

Ooooh, GoW3 is worse than Dante's Inferno because of fanboys, and the FACT that Kratos is a corny douche. I like this logic.

I sense some serious sarcasm Lil Jorsche....deal with it. Wouldn't wanna watch a movie with a lame ass main character. It's suppose to be entertainment, but whenever Kratos spoke it was like nails on a chalk board. The only thing the story was good for was putting me to sleep.

If I may give a breakdown of these five reasons, one of them has nothing to do with the games themselves, one gives no indication of quality, and the other three are completely subjective. Whatever though, I haven't played either game, besides their demos, so what do I know?

God of War III isn't even out yet.

Besides that, at least God of War is the originator of this style of beat-em-up. Dante's Inferno rips of GoW, and The Divine Comedy, AND THEN decides to sell it all as a book with some art thrown in for a full-price book rather than just offer the text for free on their website.

Just cause something was the first in something doesn't mean it is still top dog by its third installment. GoW was totally overrated.

If the God of War team made Dante's Inferno, it probably would be "far better." But all your post really argues is that the concept for DI is better than GOW, not the actual product.

@tangoliber
My point exactly. There's really very little to do with gameplay in this. With the exception of length and fanboyism you could pass this off as a comparison of two films really.

Again, not saying I disagree with you but your argument is terribly flawed.

Hahahaha, this is great! That's the exact joke Jim uses in his blatantly better than articles to make fun of idiot troll logic. I know that was done without the slightest hint of irony, but still, well done.

His reasons have nothing to do with how the game plays which is reason #1 for what makes or breaks a game. His opinions are completely valid. I'm not discouring the legitimacy of his opinions. In fact I haven't touched his opinion at all and, like I said, I won't because I'm not a big fan of either one. They're fun but I can take it or leave it. However even I can tell his argument is not a good one.

You mention him backing up his opinion. That's just the thing. His argument doesn't do justice to the overall opinion he's presenting. Which, I'll repeat, is a totally valid opinion. I've no beef with it.

Actually, Doom is better than Call of Duty, dood.

Also, as I said, GoW III isn't out yet. You can't judge what isn't out yet. It makes you seem like a tool.

Kratos will rip you in half for such blasphemy.

I'm almost done with Dante and so far it's better than GOW1 and 2.

I'll be picking up three tommorrow.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt (there I go with faith in humanity again) he COULD have found someone breaking street date.

That said it would explain why he doesn't talk about gameplay. However he does talk about length. Hmm...

I dunno. I'm not gonna write him off yet. I give him the benefit of the doubt. I'd rather be a guilible fool than jump to conclusions and make a dick of myself.

Kratos has a daddy....it's Zeus

reviewers report 10 hours...they speed through to finish reviews

technically Dante is an idiot because he got tricked by the high priest/bishop guy. AND he cheated on his wife! Kratos was widowed when he had sex.

You're being kinda fanbiyidh making this

Why does kratos need to talk? He's just gunna end up killing the person who talks to. Waste of breath.

Greek mythology hasn't been done that much, especially in this genre. I agree that the he'll setting is awesome, but I've seen more WW2 games...

Gow always has replay...plus DLC content?

The end-all decision.

Dante- Give me my woman back. All I did was cheat and now I'm literally going through hell. Oh noes.

Kratos- I'm going to beat the living shit out of the most well know mythological creatures and GODS. Read that last word again. GODS. Not only was I literally sent to Hell, I fucking escaped the shit out of it after beating the shit out of Cerberus and Hades, FOR FUN.

Pick your poison.

Haha game set match. But I PROMISE you I played through the whole game on Normal mode (can't remember what it's called) and collected everythin in 8 1/2 hours. It's not a long game. And I think what NormalGamer was ultimately saying was that dantes inferno is better than GoW3. Not any of the others. I would agree with that, as I feel that the first 2 GoWs are a lot better then GoW3.

Nice comments though. Haha hilarious.

Played GoW/GoW2, beat them, didn't particularly care for it's flavor of hack n' slash, so I won't be picking it up, at least any time soon. Did play Dante's Inferno as well, thought it was quite good. It felt much 'fresher' than GoW, and sort of scratched my itch for that particular type of game for a while.

Mythology in video games is overdone? Really?

I've never played a game that featured a story even remotely like God of War. Oh sure there are games with similar themes, but I've never played a game that had me assaulting Mount Olympus and brutally killing Greek Gods.

Also, Dante, a cool character? Right. I guess we're all entitled to our opinions.

Anyway, I've been enjoying the finest the action genre has to offer for the past 6 or so hours. Shame you can't say the same.

I liked Dante's Inferno for the most part though Greed was a piss poor excuse for a level and the second half kinda petered out. The idea of playing through hell is really exciting and could really bring something new to the table. I don't think the game achieved that but maybe in the sequel it will (purgatory?)

I like the God of War series more than Dante's Inferno without having played 3 yet.

I'm ok with this.

Let's all hug it out.
